GCIT Students to Launch Original Podcasts on Radio Taiwan International Academy’s channel through Groundbreaking Industry Collaboration

【Article by GCIT】
Students from the Master’s Program in Global Communication and Innovation Technology (GCIT) at National Chengchi University will soon launch original podcasts on Radio Taiwan International Academy's (Rti Academy) YouTube channel. This achievement caps off their participation in an innovative industry course titled “Global Communication: Cross-Media Planning, Production, and Management.”
The groundbreaking represents a milestone as the first-ever joint partnership between Rti and TaiwanPlus delivered within the GCIT program. Co-instructed by industry experts such as Weimin Tseng, hosts at Rti, and Michael Yu, CEO of TaiwanPlus, this course provided students with a rare opportunity to learn directly from professionals impacting Taiwan’s global media landscape.
The course was divided into two segments: Rti focused on radio broadcasting, exploring its global reach through social media and the network’s multilingual programming strategies. At the same time, TaiwanPlus provided insights into news video production and journalistic storytelling. Students were guided by prominent figures such as Carlson Huang, International Language Division Manager at Rti; Isis Lee, Vice President at Rti; Andrew Ryan, Deputy News Director at TaiwanPlus; and Divya Gopalan, Director of International Coverage, enriching the learning experience.
The final project challenged students to develop their own podcast concepts—from ideation and audience targeting to interview planning and scripting. Under instructor guidance and with full access to Rti’s professional recording studios, student groups recorded and produced their episodes. Three exceptional podcasts emerged from the course, each offering unique cross-cultural perspectives. “Chasing Dreams Beyond Borders” captures the compelling journeys of international students building their lives in Taiwan. “The North Bound” explores the unexpected cultural connections between Taiwan and Russia, while “Sounds of TW” immerses listeners in Taiwan's rich audio landscape, from traditional Taiwanese opera to contemporary cultural soundscapes.
Following professional recording at Rti's studios and post-production editing, all podcasts will soon be available on the Rti Academy YouTube channel, showcasing the students' innovative storytelling and cross-cultural communication skills to global audiences.
The collaboration demonstrates GCIT's commitment to bridging academic learning with industry practice in Taiwan's evolving media landscape.
