On April 10, Associate Professor Pei-Hsuan Hsieh hosted AI expert Neal Liang for a guest lecture in the Master’s Program in Global Communication and Innovation Technology (GCIT) at National Chengchi University (NCCU). In his talk, “AI Technology & Strategy for Common Global Scenarios,” Liang gave students an in-depth overview of AI’s increasing impact across global industries.

Currently based in the United Arab Emirates with consulting firm Kearney, Liang shared his extensive experience, including his work as an AI architect for NEOM—a visionary smart city project—and his development of AI solutions at G42, a company specializing in smart and safe city design.

Liang highlighted several projects from his career, demonstrating AI’s application in futuristic urban development. One example was a “situational awareness platform” that integrates a visual city interface with real-time progress tracking to monitor construction in new urban areas. Another was an interactive video wall displaying a dynamic city map, enabling users to zoom in, view live footage, and engage with ongoing city events.

During the lecture, GCIT students received an overview of AI’s historical milestones and foundational concepts, such as supervised and unsupervised learning. Liang illustrated AI prediction and regression using a practical case: forecasting customer orders at a Taiwanese beverage shop. He also explained how his team designs tailored AI solutions for different clients, emphasizing the importance of architecture design and outlining the step-by-step process of building effective AI models.

He concluded by discussing the trend toward optimized AI models tailored for specific industries, which require less computational power without sacrificing performance. He ended the session by challenging students to propose innovative ideas leveraging AI to help NCCU embrace the next generation of technology and innovation.
