As the 112th academic year ends (Fall 2023-Spring 2024 semester), the Master’s Program in Global Communication and Innovation Technology (GCIT) at National Chengchi University held an end-of-semester tea party on June 18th at the GCIT Lounge Space. The event brought professors and students, fostering enhanced communication and industry-academic connections.

The tea party, with a cozy atmosphere, attracted nearly 30 participants. Trisha Lin, Director of GCIT, opened the event with a speech highlighting the close partnership between GCIT and TaiwanPlus. This collaboration provides valuable internship opportunities for students to apply their studies in real-world settings. Lin also mentioned ongoing upgrades to the program’s facilities (GCIT’s new media studio)to create a professional learning environment. She encouraged students to seize opportunities by participating in paper competitions organized by institutions like the National Science and Technology Council (NSTC) to gain more exposure.

Michael Yu, CEO of TaiwanPlus, was a special guest at the event. He teaches a practical course, "Basic Workshop in Digital Media: Reporting in Digital Image,” at GCIT, imparting skills in filming, digital communication, and social media. Yu invites experienced TaiwanPlus journalists to conduct classes, giving students insight into the operations of an international news media outlet. He expressed admiration for GCIT students who interned at TaiwanPlus this semester, noting their impressive performance in news production and marketing. Yu emphasized the importance of internationalization, highlighting that GCIT students possess valuable cross-cultural communication and bilingual skills, making them highly competitive in a diverse workplace. TaiwanPlus is dedicated to becoming an international media platform, offering local students job opportunities and welcoming international students to intern and work in Taiwan, thus providing an excellent career bridge.

Assistant Professor Chih-Yuan Yang from the International College of Innovation shared insights about his research, "Science, Technology, and Society." He encourages students to develop social observation skills and emphasizes the omnipresence of technological controversies in social issues. He mentioned that his future teaching courses would focus on exploring social issues and environmental movement history, with an in-depth analysis of offshore wind and nuclear power topics.

Besides various snacks, GCIT also prepared a "Memory Wall" with photos documenting students' class participation throughout the semester. Many students, who had not seen each other for a while, eagerly caught up on each other's lives and shared their experiences and insights from the semester. Doris, a second-year master's student, expressed that the end-of-semester tea party made her feel "well cared for." She appreciated the opportunity to study diverse and interdisciplinary courses at GCIT and hoped for more specialized and practical skill training in future mandatory courses.

The tea party provided a relaxing break from the busy end-of-semester period and strengthened the bond and communication between faculty and students. Through the collaboration with TaiwanPlus, students gained more internship opportunities and learning resources, enhancing their practical skills and international workplace competitiveness.
