The Master's Program in Global Communication and Innovation Technology (GCIT) recently built a new media studio in the Research and Innovation Incubation Center (RIIC) Building on the hilltop of NCCU's campus. A launching event was held on 23rd November to showcase the virtual reality era of media production.

The new media studio combines advanced virtual reality and image-motion-tracking systems, which meet the latest trends in the media industry. Michael Yu, Acting CEO of TaiwanPlus, and Mei-Ling Hsu, Director of GCIT, together with staff and students of GCIT, all participated in the inaugural event.

Three major highlights of the Edison Brainstorm System were demonstrated during the launching ceremony: virtual reality, streaming directing system, and automatic tracking camera. Among them, the virtual reality mode can be used with a green screen to deliver presentations, documents, and websites, making remote meetings and courses easier; the 360-degree camera can be computer controlled throughout the process. Additionally, it's even possible to record a film with a mobile phone in advance, then use the software for content amplification and synthesis. The streaming directing system allows users to experience switching between the director station and sub-control room on a single computer; it also can be used for title-adding, the marquee function, and automatic tracking camera with 4K image quality. Users can record, anchor a news event, and even make special effects on their own.

Both faculty and students participating in the studio launching ceremony were not only able to see this new tech in action, but were also invited to the green screen to actually test the automatic tracking camera. They had the opportunity to do mock live news broadcasts, test out the virtual classrooms, and visit augmented reality stadiums (e.g., Harry Potter's Hogwarts College, the Qatar World Football Stadium and other scenes). This first-hand and immersive experience in the virtual studio could all be seen in real-time.

Director Hsu of GCIT expects the new media studio will be able to provide students with a high-quality new media learning environment with all the tools they need. She hopes that the first generation of students can learn how to operate the studio and its new media technology and pass the know-how to future students and faculty.

Acting CEO Yu of TaiwanPlus, also this semester's GCIT course instructor of " Basic Workshop in Digital Media: Reporting in Digital Image ", provided wise and professional advice on the use of the new studio's equipment. He said that such advanced and practical resources on campus are invaluable. This new media studio is in all likelihood one of the best on-campus studios in Taiwan. He hopes the students can make good use of and cherish these valuable resources to learn and enhance their skills in preparation for their future careers.

GCIT was established in February of this year (2022). It is the first bilingual program in Taiwan dedicated to cultivating comprehensive international communication talent in new media. GCIT hopes that this studio will enable students to be equipped with new media skills in school so that they can be more competitive and seamlessly integrated into the international communication industry in the near future.
