【Article by GCIT】

In response to rapid developments in emerging media, the Master’s Program in Global Communication and Innovation Technology (GCIT) at National Chengchi University (NCCU) is strengthening students’ professional competencies in new media and technology-driven creativity. This semester, Distinguished Professor Trisha Lin, Director of GCIT, is offering two courses: Audiovisual Media Innovation & Interactive Technologies and Innovative Media and Creativity, both of which integrate the latest technologies such as virtual production, generative AI, and AI Vtubers. Through hands-on practice with cutting-edge industry tools, students gain essential skills that prepare them for future professional pathways in the global media landscape.

Industry Experts Guide Students Through Virtual Production Workflows

In an era defined by rapid technological advancement, GCIT invited an experienced specialist in virtual production and immersive media to join the classroom. In the course Audiovisual Media Innovation & Interactive Technologies, Peter Su, Post-Production Department Manager from FOREVERTEK introduced students to a complete virtual studio workflow integrating VR (Virtual Reality) and AR (Augmented Reality). The session covered scene design, system operations, virtual-character integration, project management, and practical filming, allowing students to understand core techniques such as real-time rendering and virtual-real compositing. This hands-on experience not only sharpened students’ technical skills but also expanded their creative potential, preparing them for future careers in advanced video production.

Generative AI in Video Creation: Connecting to Global Creative Trends

Beyond virtual production, the course continues to incorporate frontier technologies. GCIT invited Ming, CEO of Shimming Tech., to deliver a guest lecture titled “Generative AI for Next-Generation Audio-Visual Creation.” He provided an in-depth analysis of generative AI applications in script development, virtual avatar creation, and AI-driven visual generation. Demonstrating a complete workflow “from text to video,” he emphasized that future video production will rely less on technical mastery and more on the strategic use of AI prompts and creative direction. Students will apply these tools in their final projects, producing short videos that bridge theoretical learning with practical application.

Creativity Meets Technology: AI Vtubers Expand New Creative Possibilities

In another course, Innovative Media and Creativity, GCIT invited Bull Hsu, Business Director of Ubitus K.K., to lead a session on “AI Vtuber Development and Applications.” Bull introduced Ubitus’s original virtual character and explained the full workflow from character design and model training to content generation, offering students a closer look at the creative logic and challenges behind AI technologies. He also demonstrated the company’s self-developed platform UbiOne, which allows users to quickly create personalized AI characters for diverse applications. Students later conducted hands-on Vtuber generation exercises through the platform, experiencing how AI tools can be transformed into engines of creativity. Many students expressed that the session broadened their perspectives on applying AI to marketing, education, and media design.

Director Trisha Lin noted that GCIT has always emphasized “Global Vision,” “Communication Innovation,” and “Technological Practice.” Inviting industry experts into the classroom is an essential part of GCIT’s mission to foster industry-academia collaboration, enabling students to engage with emerging media technologies and become creative, practice-driven leaders in a rapidly changing digital environment.
