The Master’s Program in Global Communication and Innovation Technology (GCIT) at National Chengchi University (NCCU) is amplifying its global reach with a targeted push into the heart of the U.S. academic landscape. In June 2025, GCIT Director and Distinguished Professor Trisha Lin spearheaded a comprehensive outreach initiative, visiting three of the United States’ most prestigious universities—University of Washington, Stanford University, and University of California, Davis—to lay the groundwork for deepened academic partnerships and student exchange.

Kicking off her trip in Seattle, Professor Lin met with leadership at the University of Washington, including Director of the Communication Leadership Program Dr. Ekin Yasin and Chair of the Department of Communication Professor Christine Harold. Discussions centered around concrete opportunities for joint teaching, student exchange, and innovative short-term training programs. Facilitated by Associate Vice Provost for Academic and Student Affairs Dr. Patricia Moy, the delegation had the opportunity to tour the Global Innovation Exchange. It is an emblem of cross-disciplinary collaboration backed by Microsoft along with UW’s College of Engineering and Foster School of Business, where she drew inspiration for GCIT’s future course innovation and research integration. “UW’s hands-on, interdisciplinary model serves as a blueprint for what we aim to achieve at GCIT,” Professor Lin remarked.

On June 6th, Professor Lin traveled to Stanford University. Here, she was invited to speak at the renowned Cyber Policy Center, where her keynote presentation, “Seeing Isn’t Believing: How Taiwanese Users Expose, Detect, and Respond to Deepfakes,” sparked lively debate among SU faculty, NCCU alumni, and visiting scholars—including Professor Jeff Hancock and experts from UC Berkeley. Professor Lin also took the opportunity to showcase GCIT’s advancements in virtual production and AI-driven learning, while engaging in in-depth policy discussions with Charles Mok, Research Scholar at the Global Digital Policy Incubator of the Cyber Policy Center at Stanford University.

The final leg of the tour brought Professor Lin to the University of California, Davis, where she presented her latest findings on deepfake technology and digital ethics. Her introduction of GCIT’s forward-thinking curriculum and global strategy was met with enthusiastic feedback from both faculty and doctoral researchers. She also took time to consult with Distinguished Professor Emeritus George Barnett, gain feedback from Professor Jaeho Cho, and discuss collaboration potential in program development and international education with Associate Professor Jingwen Zhang.

Reflecting on her mission, Professor Lin noted that this U.S. engagement not only cemented GCIT’s collaborations with top American universities, but gave students new opportunities for cross-cultural experience, joint courses, and global internships. “We’re building bridges that will empower the next generation of communication and technology leaders to think globally and create real-world impact,” she said.

GCIT’s efforts signal a bold new direction for Taiwanese higher education on the international stage, one that prioritizes interdisciplinary innovation and hands-on partnership.
