"The Graduate Institute of Religious Studies (GIRS) is dedicated to the academic study of religion and to fostering talent in the field of Religious Studies. The Institute is governed by three principles: Firstly, to view “religion” in its broader sense as a comprehensive model for study, and to not relegate research to a single religious tradition. Secondly, to employ diverse and variegated materials and technical expertise towards the advancement of　scholarship, while not remaining beholden to any particular academic school, theoretical framework, or system of methodology. Thirdly, to emphasize the observation, analysis, and interpretation of domestic and overseas religious phenomena."
