The Consensus Conference on School Development was held on the 25th and 26th July 2018. During the conference, President Edward Chow (周行一) stressed that a successful university should develop graduates with critical thinking and leadership skills to inspire the society and influence the world. Besides, President Chow emphasized that the rapid changes in the global higher education environment will require a shift in strategy of teachers, students and resources. Chow also hopes that through these changes, NCCU can build a strong foundation in becoming a world-class university.


With NCCU Research Centers (特色領域中心) and International Center of Excellence（國際拔尖計畫團隊）displaying multidisciplinary integration, together with the topics of global talent, multidisciplinary skills and refining Ph.D programsdiscussed duringthe conference, NCCU works towards escalating its dominant fields.

With the topic of 'A Great University' （偉大的大學）, President Mau-Chung Frank Chang of National Chiao Tung University shared his personal experience and observation on the development of universities. President Frank Chang believes that a great university must have the quality of both seeking the truth and cultivation of talent to mould a grand generation.

The conference also invited Prof Hwang Chuan Yang from Nanyang Technology University Singapore and Dr. Miranda Lou, Executive Vice President of Hong Kong Polytechnic University to share their experiences.

Professor Hwang suggested that the teaching load of educators should be reduced to attract new educators and also including an reward system to promote teaching excellence and for their outstanding performance. In addition, providing quality educators and good training course will ensure the strong foundation of a refined Ph.D program and empowering students to progress in a globalised world. Dr. Lou pointed out the importance of nurturing entrepreneurial spirit in students and applying knowledge to the society.

From The Aim For The Top University Project（頂大計畫）to Higher Education Sprout Project（高教育深耕計畫）, NCCU displayed outstanding research results. NCCU has also established two Research Centers and nine Excellent Research Projects, bringing the school to greater heights, and leading Ph.D and young scholars to conduct interdisciplinary research.
