NCCU Delegates Visit Sciences Po and Representative Office in France to Strengthens Academic Ties

To deepen academic cooperation with Sciences Po Paris, one of its key partner institutions, National Chengchi University (NCCU) has selected 10 outstanding students from a competitive pool of applicants across the university. Financed by a Ministry of Education subsidy, the selected students will participate in the Sciences Po Summer School. The delegation comprises both undergraduate and postgraduate students from a diverse range of academic disciplines including Diplomacy, Law, Communication, Ethnology, English, and Japanese, showcasing the depth of NCCU's cross-disciplinary talent. Led by Associate Vice President of the Office of International Cooperation Professor Cho-Hsin Su, the delegation visited the Taipei Representative Office in France on June 29. They were received by Lu Mei-Chen, Director of the Education Division, for an in-depth discussion on the current state and future prospects of academic diplomacy and Taiwan France higher education cooperation, kicking off the study tour.
During the meeting, Director Lu pointed out that as interactions between Taiwan and France grow increasingly close, the two sides have gradually initiated substantive cooperation across multiple fields, including technology, education, and culture. In recent years, a growing number of Taiwanese enterprises have invested and established factories in France. Coupled with Taiwan's world-leading semiconductor technology, many French universities have proactively expressed keen interest in establishing deeper partnerships with Taiwanese higher education institutions to co-cultivate a new generation of professional talent. She noted that educational links between Taiwan and France are transitioning from individual inter-collegiate exchanges toward systemic, long-term strategic cooperation.
During the exchange, the NCCU student delegates enthusiastically asked questions and engaged in lively discussions regarding France's political landscape, the current state of higher education, and the career paths and personal experiences of overseas diplomats. Among the team members, many aspire to join the civil service and hope to be stationed abroad in the future, sharing a deep curiosity and passion for the realities of diplomatic work. Director Lu responded insightfully to each query, encouraging the students to make the most of their journey. She inspired them to immerse themselves in France’s critical-thinking culture, foster their own unique insights through academic exchange, and leverage this one-month study tour to enrich their long-term career paths and global horizons.
Director Lu also praised NCCU for its sustained dedication to international exchange, particularly with French institutions. Noting that NCCU President Li Tsai-yen headed a delegation to France last year, she recognized NCCU as a key driver in strengthening Taiwan-France higher education cooperation. Prof. Su added that as a key think tank for European Union studies in Taiwan, NCCU has continuously deepened cooperation with its French partner institutions in recent years. This has resulted not only in steady growth in the volume of exchanges but also a comprehensive upgrade in the quality of cooperation. The selection of these talented students for the Sciences Po Summer School is a clear demonstration of NCCU’s long-term commitment to international collaboration.
Looking ahead to the coming month, the ten students will join over 200 participants from more than 60 countries at Sciences Po. Under the guidance of distinguished international faculty, they will engage in academic exchange, expand their international horizons, and build global networks within a multicultural environment. Prof. Su expressed her hope that this journey will not only enhance the students' professional capabilities but also further advance Taiwan-France educational exchange, strengthening NCCU’s long-term presence and engagement in Europe.
