The Master’s Program in Global Communication and Innovation Technology (GCIT) at National Chengchi University continues to strengthen its international academic engagement and expand its global network in cultural technology and emerging media. From May 5 to 10, 2026, GCIT Director Professor Tammy Lin visited the Data Sciences Institute at the University of Toronto and attended the “Questioning Reality” series of international academic events, representing GCIT on the global stage of emerging media research. On May 6, Professor Lin was invited to participate in the “Questioning Reality” strategy meeting. From May 7 to 8, she attended the international conference of the same name as a panel discussant.
The event brought together scholars and industry representatives from the United States, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Spain, Taiwan, Japan, Canada, and other regions, including representatives from Google, Meta, and Nokia. Participants engaged in discussions on key issues arising from the rapid development of artificial intelligence and extended reality (XR) technologies, including human-computer interaction, the evolution of media ecosystems, and the perception and construction of reality. The conference also covered forward-looking topics such as virtual reality (VR), social VR, intelligent media, and cross-institutional research collaboration, providing an important international platform for dialogue in emerging media studies.
During the visit, Professor Lin also met with Dr. Bree McEwan, Associate Director of the Data Sciences Institute at the University of Toronto and Professor at the Institute of Communication, Culture, Information and Technology (ICCIT). Dr. McEwan congratulated Professor Lin on her appointment as Director of GCIT in May 2026. The two sides also exchanged commemorative gifts, underscoring the friendly academic ties between the two institutions.
They further exchanged views on shared research interests in international communication, cultural technology, and emerging media, deepening opportunities for future academic exchange and collaboration. Professor Lin said the “Questioning Reality” conference and her exchanges with the University of Toronto and international academic partners closely align with GCIT’s mission to advance education in global communication, cultural technology, and emerging media. She noted that the visit not only strengthened GCIT’s international collaboration network, but also opened up broader opportunities for future curriculum innovation, cross-national research projects, and student international exchange. Since its establishment, GCIT has upheld interdisciplinary integration and global perspectives as its core educational mission, cultivating communication professionals with global communication literacy and forward-looking technological capabilities.
Looking ahead, GCIT will continue to expand its international academic partnerships through cross-disciplinary research collaboration and global exchange platforms, enhancing Taiwan’s international visibility and influence in cultural technology and communication education, while contributing to the internationalization of higher education in Taiwan.
