In 2026, the Chinese Language Center (CLC) launched the “Students’ Video Showcase” after a hiatus of several years. The event invites international Mandarin learners to participate in a video competition, incorporating the Chinese grammar they have acquired over recent months into creative productions that demonstrate their learning outcomes in length of 3-5 mins.

The competition features ten participating teams, each presenting high-quality video works that reflect both linguistic proficiency and creative expression. From acting and cinematography to scriptwriting, the entries have impressed both faculty and students with their near-professional standards. Many works highlight elements of Taiwanese culture and everyday life, while also showcasing the students’ imagination and growing command of the language.

On May 5, the CLC hosted a screening banquet at NCCU’s International Building, bringing together participating students to celebrate their achievements and view one another’s works. During the event, CLC Director Professor Jiang commended the students for their dedication and encouraged them to further explore the cultural richness of Taiwan. She also acknowledged the efforts of Mandarin teachers, whose guidance enabled students to effectively integrate language learning into creative practice.

The submitted videos present a wide range of themes and styles. Some adopt the format of news reports, using dramatic visual effects and humorous narration to introduce aspects of life in Taiwan. Others capture scenes from daily life, such as outdoor gatherings under rare sunny skies in northern Taiwan. Several entries draw inspiration from traditional Taiwanese television dramas, featuring exaggerated storytelling and expressive performances. Collectively, these works serve as a vivid record of the students’ experiences living and learning in Taiwan.

To further engage the university community, the CLC has opened the competition to public voting. Faculty and students at NCCU are invited to view the作品 and consider how Taiwan is perceived through the lens of international learners, potentially offering new perspectives on familiar surroundings.

Voting is now open on the NCCU CLC’s official YouTube channel, featuring the ten latest entries.

Voting period: May 5 – May 15
