Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego led a senior delegation from the City of Phoenix, Arizona, on an official visit to National Chengchi University (NCCU) on January 15, 2026, marking an important milestone in city-level exchange and U.S.–Taiwan higher education cooperation.

The delegation was formally received by Lee Tsai-Yen, President of NCCU, together with senior university leadership. During the visit, both sides engaged in high-level discussions on future collaboration and signed a Letter of Intent (LOI), establishing a framework for institutional cooperation. The agreement aims to expand opportunities for NCCU students in overseas study, internships, and cross-border academic exchange in the United States, further strengthening NCCU’s role within the global higher education network.

As a key platform for academic and international exchange during the visit, the delegation also toured the Master’s Program in Global Communication and Innovation Technology (GCIT) at NCCU. The delegation was welcomed by Trisha Lin, Distinguished Professor and Director of GCIT, who introduced the program’s academic vision, curriculum design, and international partnerships. Guests were guided through the GCIT New Media Studio, where they learned how the program integrates digital communication, audiovisual production, and innovative technologies into practice-based graduate education.

Highlights of the visit included an AI-powered avatar welcome video developed by GCIT, demonstrating the program’s innovative approach to integrating emerging technologies into teaching and global communication. In celebration of the upcoming Lunar New Year, Mayor Gallego and the delegation also recorded a New Year’s greeting video at the GCIT New Media Studio, extending warm wishes to GCIT and NCCU faculty and students, and adding a meaningful cultural dimension to the U.S.–Taiwan exchange.

Mayor Gallego remarked,

“I’ve been so impressed by GCIT and the university. Your strength in high-tech fields, the involvement of world-class experts, and the entrepreneurial spirit of your students are truly inspiring. It makes me feel confident that the future is bright.”

Following the program visit, the delegation toured the GCIT offices, where Director Trisha Lin presented commemorative gifts on behalf of the program. The visit concluded with a group photo, marking a memorable moment in the continued development of U.S.–Taiwan academic and city-level collaboration.
