On Nov. 21, 2025, Voice of NCCU, in collaboration with IMICS, hosted a podcast workshop featuring Ghost Island Media founder Emily Wu (吳怡慈), who shared expert tips on creating successful audio stories.

Professor Chun-Ming Huang, Associate Dean of the College of Communication at NCCU, opened the event by welcoming Ms. Wu—an award-winning journalist and media leader—and highlighting her unique ability to blend creative storytelling with rigorous journalistic training.

"This event is a warm-up for our future plans to create international radio programs at NCCU," he stated.

The workshop was held in two sessions. In the first segment in the morning, Ms. Wu shared the development of podcasts and vivid examples of successful audio stories by global brands and NGOs. Participants then engaged in a live "pitch and refine" session, allowing them to practice crafting their own audio narratives in real-time.

The second session in the afternoon shifted focus to tips for execution plans for a compelling podcast or radio interview. It covered essential technical skills, including strategic preparation, studio etiquette, and the art of asking the right questions to elicit powerful stories. After that, the participants role-played as interviewers, thinking and asking questions to craft a podcast about a figure in the Video game music production industry.

“The goal is to understand speakers by doing research and get well-prepared”, Ms. Wu concluded on how to plan for a successful interview. The Cannes Lions Awards judge also emphasized on the need to establish connections with interviewees to have engaging and relaxed conversations, take notes and not to get lost in questions.

To bridge theory with practice, the workshop also featured a tour of the Voice of NCCU Radio station, the creative hub responsible for a wide array of programs covering culture, cuisine, film, travel, entertainment, music, and psychology. During the visit, participants were introduced to the professional recording studios and given a walkthrough of the essential tools and hardware required for both high-quality audio storytelling and live broadcasting.

At the conclusion of the workshop, Ms. Wu encouraged aspiring creators to start by defining their topic, the story they wish to tell, and their specific audience.

"Once you have that plan, figure out what you’re good at and find partners for the things you cannot do," she added. "Not everyone can do everything, so find your collaborators and just start”.
