【Article by GCIT】
The Master’s Program in Global Communication and Innovation Technology (GCIT) at National Chengchi University held its Admission Briefing on September 23, making its debut at the GCIT New Media Studio. Innovatively adopting a hybrid format that integrated on-site participation with online live streaming, the event featured real-time special effects, screen overlays, and AI-generated avatars, bringing attendees a brand-new and interactive experience.
As Taiwan’s first EMI (English as a Medium of Instruction) master’s program in international communication, GCIT integrates faculty and resources from five NCCU colleges—Communication, Informatics, Law, Liberal Arts, and International Innovation. The program is committed to cultivating international communication talents with strong technological expertise and practical industry expertise.
Distinguished Professor and GCIT Director Trisha Lin emphasized that the program is built around three core areas: International News, Creative Digital Content, and Information Technology & Marketing Applications. The curriculum stresses cross-interdisciplinary integration and industry-academia collaboration. In addition to student exchange opportunities with leading overseas universities, GCIT regularly invites experts and visiting scholars to deliver lectures and workshops, broadening students’ global perspectives and interdisciplinary competence. Generous scholarships are offered, alongside a dual-mentorship system pairing academic and industry advisors, as well as subsidies for domestic and overseas internships—helping students grow in both academia and their professional careers.
Assistant Professor Christine Cook, who teaches academically oriented courses such as Research Methods, also offers a Digital Narratives course that bridges traditional and new media, warmly welcoming students to participate. Assistant Professor Tim Chang focuses on AR/VR and digital media applications, exploring how technology can support academic research and address real-world challenges. He described GCIT as “a global village,” encouraging students to seize diverse opportunities for interdisciplinary learning.
Several GCIT students and alumni also shared their study and internship experiences, both in Taiwan and abroad. Many highlighted the program’s strong support, which enabled them to gain valuable professional experience in domestic and international media, technology firms, and other industries. They encouraged prospective students to fully leverage GCIT’s abundant resources and networks to explore new possibilities.
The event attracted a wide audience of students and professionals. Many expressed delight at the innovative use of the virtual production studio and AI-assisted virtual hosts. One attendee with a background in the news industry noted that she was drawn to GCIT’s well-structured and innovative curriculum, as well as its all-English instruction. Another participant was impressed by the program’s combination of communication and technology, remarking on the cutting-edge facilities at the New Media Studio. Others traveled from as far as southern Taiwan to attend in person, showing strong interest in joining the program.
The Admission Briefing highlighted GCIT’s distinctive features and reaffirmed its commitment to cultivating future leaders in global communication and innovative technology. Applications for the 2026 admission cycle (Academic Year 115) opened in September. GCIT warmly welcomes students passionate about international communication, digital media, and innovative technology to apply and join this cross-disciplinary program that bridges academic learning and professional practice.
