On January 3, 2025, the Master's Program in Global Communication and Innovation Technology (GCIT) at National Chengchi University (NCCU) hosted an internship-sharing event at the Research and Innovation Incubation Center (RIIC). During this event, students showcased their achievements from both domestic and international internships. The presentations covered a variety of fields, including media, technology, energy management, and digital marketing. Attendees gained valuable career insights and witnessed how GCIT students effectively translate their academic knowledge into practical skills.

Domestic Internships: Building Core Competencies

GCIT students demonstrated significant growth during their domestic internships, gaining hands-on experience in various fields.

At Radio Taiwan International (RTI), interns Ivan, Billy, Samuel, Leo, Zona, and Jessica gained content creation, podcast recording, and feature reporting skills. They also explored international communication and East Asian affairs through online courses at NTU. A highlight of their experience was participating in RTI’s anti-fraud workshop, which emphasized the importance of identifying and combating misinformation—an essential standard for modern media professionals.

Claire rotated through multiple departments at the Central News Agency (CNA), mastering news reporting, editing, and multimedia production. She remarked, “Covering Malaysia’s National Day Parade as a correspondent was a rare opportunity that enhanced my sensitivity to international news and taught me to maintain professional judgment during significant events.”

During her internship at Schneider Electric, Grace optimized video production workflows using AI tools and applied big data analytics to develop social media strategies, improving the company’s digital marketing efficiency. She noted, “This internship showed me the critical role of AI in energy management and business operations, significantly influencing my career planning.”

At Aiii.ai, Athena contributed to an innovative healthcare project by developing a support tool for hemophilia patients. She shared, “This project demonstrated how technology can improve the quality of medical care, particularly through AI-driven precision diagnostics and automation, providing invaluable hands-on experience.”

Charlotte interned at TaiwanPlus, working on cross-cultural projects, including AI tool testing, data analysis, and platform optimization. She emphasized, “Working on an international media platform required not only technical expertise but also strong cross-cultural communication skills, which are vital for enhancing global competitiveness.”

Other students excelled in roles at organizations like Wavenet, where Natalie contributed to the "Creator Sonar" project by researching search engine optimization and efficiency. Students interning at Porsche Taiwan showcased their diverse professional capabilities in brand marketing and digital content strategy.

Overseas Learning Experiences: Broadening Horizons

GCIT students gained valuable international experiences that enhanced their cross-cultural understanding and global outlook.

In Singapore, Lada participated in seminars hosted by the Professional Convention Management Association (PCMA) and attended major trade shows, including CeMAT. Reflecting on her experience, she stated, “My time in Singapore provided deep insights into the global events industry and how the country leverages its unique historical and cultural advantages to influence global business development.”

In Thailand, Zona led the design of augmented reality (AR) puzzles and the development of virtual reality (VR) games as part of the ImaginAsia program. She also researched sound and virtual production at the Thai Film Archive. Meanwhile, Wanphen excelled at the Creative Economy Agency, where she contributed to planning the prestigious CEA Awards 2024 and authored promotional materials for the Taiwan Creative Expo 2024, showcasing her exceptional cross-national project management skills.

The Internship Sharing Event highlighted the invaluable role of internships in equipping students with practical skills and industry knowledge. These experiences allowed students to apply academic learning to real-world scenarios, honing critical abilities such as communication, problem-solving, and adaptability. The speakers underscored how stepping out of their comfort zones through internships fostered innovation, exemplified by Natalie’s work on Wavenet’s “Creator Sonar” project. Her research tackling search engine transparency and efficiency showcased the transformative impact of applied research and creative problem-solving in addressing industry challenges.

Dr. Trisha Lin, Director of GCIT, praised the students for their remarkable adaptability and professional growth. “This cohort has demonstrated impressive technical expertise and the ability to adapt in various fields. They have also developed essential soft skills, such as cross-cultural communication, problem-solving, and a lifelong learning mindset—crucial assets for addressing future workplace challenges.”

Looking ahead, GCIT plans to expand its collaboration network with industry partners to offer students even more diverse internship opportunities. Director Lin stated, “Our goal is to assist every student in identifying their ideal career path and building competitive skills for the global job market. Today’s sharing event celebrates past achievements and inspires younger students to explore their career development actively.”
