ICI held a vibrant orientation on September 3rd. The event featured not only course introductions by professors but also the highly anticipated tradition of mentor-group dinners, which became the highlight of the entire event. This icebreaker activity provided new students with a valuable opportunity to meet peers from around the world and establish closer connections with mentors. Furthermore, the event was conducted entirely in English, enhancing student engagement and accelerating their integration into the college's multicultural environment, thereby laying a solid foundation for their upcoming university life.
Although Dean Wen-Ling TU of ICI was unable to attend the event in person due to official duties abroad, she conveyed her earnest hopes for the incoming freshmen via video. She expressed, "I hope ICI can be a platform for each of us with different social and cultural backgrounds to support broader learning." Dean Tu also looks forward to students enjoying a fulfilling experience in their studies and activities, as well as finding meaningful ways to self-searching.
During the event, new student Yu-An Chen expressed feeling nervous about the upcoming semester, particularly facing professional courses entirely in English. However, she mentioned that the mentor-group dinner allowed her to engage early with professors, whose friendly attitudes made her feel more relaxed. Additionally, Giovanie Tandiono from Indonesia shared her excitement and anticipation for the new semester, saying, "The unknown future always excites me." She added that she couldn't wait to start new courses and make friends from different countries.
This orientation not only helped new students quickly adapt to university life but also provided a series of course introductions, elective guidance, and shared life experiences, allowing each student to find their own stage and sense of belonging within the college. The college aims to enrich students' learning experiences through more academic and cultural activities, looking forward to their outstanding achievements in the future.
