To strengthen international partnerships and enhance expertise in global academic cooperation, Ms. Shufan Lee (also known as Viktoriia Pogrebenko, or 李舒凡), the Project Manager of the NCCU Huayu BEST Program, visited several leading universities in Türkiye from May 8 to 16. The purpose of the visit was to enhance institutional collaboration, establish new academic connections, and raise the international visibility of both the Chinese Language Center (CLC) and NCCU.

Upon arrival in Istanbul on May 8, Ms.Shufan Lee (李舒凡), a representative of the Chinese Language Center, visited Istanbul University, where she met with Assistant Professor Dr. Lale Aydın Tunç and students from the Department of Chinese Language and Literature. For many students, the session offered a first glimpse into studying in Taiwan beyond the language classroom. Through an introduction to NCCU’s academic environment, campus resources, and diverse student community, the students gained a better understanding of the opportunities and challenges of pursuing further studies abroad.

Students and faculty members were particularly interested in learning more about the CLC program structure, admission requirements, and available scholarships. These questions were addressed in detail by Ms. Esra Inci (尹安珍), an alumna of the Chinese Language Center who studied Mandarin there from September 2025 to February 2026. She shared her personal experience of studying Chinese and living in Taiwan, serving as a strong example of successful linguistic and cultural immersion, and inspired many students to consider studying in Taiwan. At the end of the meeting, students expressed interest in NCCU's Chinese language programs and academic exchange opportunities to support their future academic and professional development. The faculty members also emphasized the importance of bilateral cooperation and academic exchanges between IU and NCCU.

From May 11 to 15, the Center's representative took part in the International Staff Week hosted by Koç University, one of Türkiye's foremost private universities. The program featured lectures and workshops on key topics in international higher education cooperation, including the development and implementation of micro-credentials, international student mobility programs, and issues regarding inclusivity and anti-discrimination in academia. Together, these sessions underscored the importance of building flexible, forward-looking educational models that can respond to rapid changes in the global higher education landscape.

The highlight of the week was the Study Abroad Fair, held on May 13 on the Koç University campus. The event drew both local students and international exchange students from a wide range of countries. In addition to language programs, participants also showed interest in Taiwan as a destination that combines a thriving high-tech industry with a rich academic and cultural environment.

Visitors to the booth had an opportunity to try the well-known Taiwanese snack Kuai Kuai (乖乖) in red oolong tea flavor. The product drew particular attention for its packaging design, featuring a traditional Turkish tea glass—ince belli—which symbolically reflected the cultural closeness between Taiwan and Türkiye. This small design element highlighted that, despite the geographical distance, Taiwan and Türkiye share many cultural values, including rich tea traditions and a strong culture of hospitality.

The final stop of the visit was Sabancı University, another leading private university in Türkiye located on the Asian side of Istanbul. During the visit, university staff and faculty members shared valuable insights into student support services, innovative educational practices, and the balance between creativity and standardization in higher education. The university also showcased a range of SDG-focused initiatives that bring together local and international students to address social and environmental challenges through volunteer and community-based projects.

The visit demonstrated the universities’ strong commitment to internationalization, student engagement, and career development. Innovative initiatives such as Koç University’s KUComPass program demonstrated a broader institutional approach to supporting students’ academic, professional, and personal growth beyond the classroom. The visit not only broadened opportunities for future academic collaboration but also provided valuable insights into university administration and student services, offering new ideas that may contribute to the future development and internationalization efforts of NCCU.
