Master’s Program in Global Communication and Innovation Technology (GCIT) at National Chengchi University (NCCU) hosted a professional advising session on April 27, featuring Yimin Kao, who is Director of Data and Business Intelligence at Gogolook. In his talk, “Finding the Rhythm in the AI Era: But Grooving into What Really Matters,” Kao shared insights from his professional experience in artificial intelligence and data analytics. As AI continues to advance and accelerate industry transformation, the lecture focused on how individuals can identify essential competencies in highly technology-driven environments, addressing key challenges in talent development.
Framed around the concept of “Rhythm,” Kao drew from his experience learning hip-hop dance to illustrate how learning progresses from basic movements to advanced techniques, ultimately returning to fundamentals. He further noted that in the rapidly evolving AI landscape, individuals often prioritize new tools and efficiency gains; however, long-term value lies in understanding the core of problems and strengthening fundamental capabilities. He also cited Whoscall as an example, explaining how AI can be applied to enhance fraud detection accuracy and build a more trustworthy digital environment.
In response to students’ questions about entering the industry, Kao emphasized that, beyond technical proficiency, I place strong importance on how individuals engage with and reflect on AI tools. He explained that the ability to articulate one’s observations of product features, user experience, and potential issues demonstrates critical thinking and analytical capability. In contrast, passively executing tasks without independent judgment makes it difficult to demonstrate meaningful value. Kao further stressed that proactively identifying problems and proposing improvements is a key competency in the AI era. He added that: “he particularly values how students reflect on their experiences using AI tools, as such reflections often indicate independent thinking and sound judgment.”
The lecture attracted GCIT students and participants from related fields. Through insights drawn from industry practice, attendees gained a clearer understanding of the real-world applications and limitations of AI technologies. Guided by its commitment to interdisciplinary integration and global perspectives, GCIT continues to cultivate talents equipped with both communication expertise and technological literacy, while strengthening connections between academia and industry to respond to the evolving demands of digital transformation.
