The Asiahub New Media Summit, a prominent event in the media industry, took place on November 11 and 12 at the Regent Hotel in Taipei’s Zhongshan District. Some GCIT students joined the event and gained insights from experts. This participation reflects GCIT’s active engagement with the latest industry developments and its commitment to nurturing media talent equipped for global challenges.
Hosted by the New Media Entertainment Association, the summit gathered international experts to discuss emerging trends in digital content production, with a strong focus on free ad-supported streaming TV (FAST).
This year’s theme, “Consolidation,” emphasized strategies for strengthening media organizations through resource sharing, operational streamlining, and potential mergers to create more resilient and efficient entities in the competitive media landscape. In particular, the FAST model, which has gained significant traction in the U.S., was heralded as a transformative development for global media. The ad-supported model allows users to access a continuous stream of entertainment without a subscription fee, supported solely by advertising revenue. As streaming services like Disney+ continue to rise in popularity, FAST channels present a compelling alternative for consumers seeking affordable on-demand viewing options.
Nicky Hsieh, Director of the New Media Entertainment Association and the summit’s curator, extended invitations to GCIT students, providing them with an opportunity to engage directly with industry professionals. GCIT has been committed to equipping students with cutting-edge knowledge in media and communication, ensuring they can actively participate in global events like the Asiahub New Media Summit. This collaboration further highlights GCIT’s proactive role in fostering industry-academic partnerships.
Attendees from GCIT reported valuable insights from the discussions and panels.
Christine, one of the attending GCIT students, reflected on the experience: “I am delighted to have had the opportunity to attend this year's summit. Through various forums, I gained deeper insights into the recent rise of AVOD and developed great anticipation for the diverse evolution of streaming platforms in the future.”
The Asiahub New Media Summit has become an annual fixture for media professionals, convening industry leaders to address the rapid transformations shaping the future of digital entertainment.
