President Edward Chow was awarded an Honorary Doctorate in Education from Sungkyunkwan University (SKKU), South Korea, on April 19, to recognize his long-term dedication in education and advancement on the academic cooperation between two universities. Nearly a hundred people was invited to the ceremony, including SKKU President Chung Kyu-Sang (鄭圭相), Vice-President, and CEO, welcoming Chow to join the SKKU alumni association. Chow claimed that he will cherish the spirit and motto of two universities, to help jointly develop them to be the top-notch international universities as the leadership of ideas, inspiration to society and global reach.
NCCU and SKKU have had long-term collaboration on academic, research, and education since 1964. So far, they have sent exchange professors consistently to support professional education in both Chinese and Korean areas. College of Commerce and Department of Korean Language and Culture have also signed agreements with SKKU on student exchange program and double degree program to create more bilateral opportunity for students.
Lee Soon Won (李淳元), Dean of Graduate School of SKKU, complimented that under the leadership of President Chow, NCCU has become an indicator of global university of social sciences and humanities, expanded international cooperation and globalization, and aimed to cultivate outstanding students as its ultimate goal.
In his reply, President Chow said he profoundly realizes a so called top-notch university should be the one which makes great influence through society, the nation, and to the whole world. Therefore, NCCU has successfully brought on lots of innovative education and scientific research transformation, dedicated to create the environment of becoming a first-rate university.
