〈NCCU's 91st Anniversary〉Alumni Gather on Homecoming Day’s 30-Year Reunion Lunch

Nearly 400 alumni from 28 departments were invited to Si-Wei Hall for the Homecoming Day Reunion Lunch on May 19. The alumni were first guided by the student receptionist group called “Pilot” (引水人) for a tour around the campus to recall precious memories of studying, dating, clubbing, and to witness the changes occurred in the course of 30 years.
As President Edward Chow (周行一) addressed, this year’s anniversary theme signifies that, through persistent cultivation and efforts made in 90 years, the University is having fruitful success and will continue from this solid ground to strive for excellence in the future. Apart from sending greetings and blessings, President Chow also appreciated the retired professors and their contributions in education in the past and those returned to the alma mater to devote themselves in teaching right now. He believed that educating students is not merely the passing on of knowledge, but also helping them to develop sportsmanship, thus Chow gave special thanks to alumnus Jiang Fong-Nian (姜豐年) for bringing the sporting spirit on campus.
Many of the NCCU Scholarship funding were donated by Alumni. The “Heritage Grant and Scholarship for Students” (薪傳學生助學金), aim to help underprivileged students, is traditionally fundraised by Alumni who have been graduated for 30 years. Representative of the class 48, Mr. Tsai Wei-Ren (蔡維仁) of Business Administration, presented the collective gift of NT 1.2 million dollars to the University in the Reunion Lunch.
The Liao Feng-Te Memorial Scholarship (廖風德先生紀念獎學金) has been granted annually to students in the categories of Academic Research, Literary and Artistic Creation, and Public Services. The latter one is to commemorate Mr. Liao’s endowment on promoting extracurricular activities and public services and to encourage NCCU students to commit themselves in public services as well. This 10th year Memorial Scholarship was presented by Alumnus Yang Cheng-Li (楊正利) of the Business Administration.
In order to commemorate his parents, EMBA Alumnus Teng Chual-Hsin (鄧傳馨) has founded a new Memorial Scholarship called “Mr. Teng Li-Dun and Mrs. Teng Liu Chi Mei Scholarship for Disadvantaged Students (鄧立登先生及鄧劉治妹女士清寒獎助學金),” providing financial aid to students from low-income families or experienced sudden incidents, so they can continue studying and become more competitive in the future. According to Mr. Teng, since his parents taught him to help others whenever capable and the passion of President Chow for the University moved him deeply, he is willing to provide some aid and wished the recipients would do the same when available.
As for entertainment, the Alumni Choir and Chinese Music Club (華夏國樂社) both sang for past-time enjoyment, and the quiz about University Achieve also brought people back to the past glory of the campus.
Alumnus Hawk Lu of Department of Psychology was excited to see so many classmates and club-mates to come back at once, and some alumni were extremely happy to meet their 20-year long lost friends on this occasion. The alumni all foresaw a better future for the University.
