【Breaking News】Sea and Land Typhoon Warnings Issued for Severe Typhoon Champi: NCCU Urges Campus Community to Prepare and Monitor University Updates
【Article by Secretariat】
Following the Central Weather Administration’s issuance of sea and land typhoon warnings for Severe Typhoon Champi, National Chengchi University (NCCU) urges all faculty, staff, and students to remain alert and complete preparations for strong winds and heavy rain. Updates on campus services and response measures will be posted on the University homepage. Work and class suspensions will follow Taipei City Government announcements. Please monitor the latest updates and help keep yourself, others, and the campus safe.
Inspect Buildings and Ensure Drainage and Electrical Safety
The Office of General Affairs reminds all units to inspect their premises and facilities before weather conditions worsen. Before leaving offices, classrooms, or other indoor spaces, close all windows and doors securely, switch off nonessential electrical equipment, and observe fire safety precautions. Before leaving work, building managers should check rooftop and terrace drains and other drainage facilities to make sure they are clear and to reduce the risk of leaks and flooding. Elevators should be parked on the second floor.
Building and commercial facility managers should secure or, where necessary, remove notice boards, flags, signs, and other items that could be blown loose by strong winds. If winds become too strong, the University may shut down central air conditioning in the General Building of Colleges, College of Commerce, Research Building, Computer Center, and other buildings as conditions require.
Monitor Parking and Floodgate Restrictions; Stay Away from River Embankments
Please monitor conditions in and around underground parking facilities and move vehicles out in advance when necessary. Basement flood barriers will be closed if river levels exceed the warning threshold. Avoid parking beneath trees along Huanshan Road or beside retaining walls. Do not park motorcycles or scooters in riverside parking areas outside the levees, and do not approach river embankments to observe water levels.
The Taipei City Hydraulic Engineering Office also advises owners of cars, motorcycles, and scooters parked in riverside parking areas outside the levees to closely monitor floodgate restrictions and closure announcements, and to remove their vehicles promptly as instructed for their own safety. For updates, see the “Latest News” section of the Taipei City Hydraulic Engineering Office website.
Dormitory Residents: Prepare Essential Supplies and Stay Indoors During Severe Weather
Dormitory residents should prepare ready-to-eat food, drinking water, flashlights, batteries, and other essential supplies in advance, and follow dormitory announcements. The Anjiu Campus Store remains open; please purchase necessary supplies early and avoid going outdoors during strong winds and heavy rain. For safety, do not use candles during power outages.
Work and Class Suspensions Follow City Announcements; Campus Services May Be Adjusted
NCCU will follow Taipei City Government announcements regarding work and class suspensions. If both work and classes are suspended, campus shuttle buses will stop operating, and classroom and venue bookings for activities will also be suspended. If only classes are suspended while work continues, these services will operate as usual. Organizers of camps and other campus events should make adjustments in accordance with government announcements and University notices, and inform participants accordingly.
After the typhoon, unit and building managers should inspect their premises and facilities when it is safe to do so, report any damage, and arrange recovery work as needed.
NCCU urges all faculty, staff, and students to follow the latest typhoon updates from the Central Weather Administration and University announcements, prepare early, and avoid going out unless necessary. In an emergency, contact the relevant campus units immediately for assistance.
