【About the Speaker】
Ivan Chen-Hsiu Liu is an artist and researcher. He received his PhD in theoretical physics from the Max Planck Institute in Germany and studied physics at Imperial College London, UK. He has also served as a visiting researcher at the French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS), and in 2014 he was an artist-in-residence at iMAL in Belgium. He is currently an Assistant Professor at the Institute of Applied Arts, National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University (NYCU), where he leads the Future Narratives Lab. His current practice explores new ways of narrating contemporary issues through science-inspired artistic representations. His works have been recognized with honors including the National Art Exhibition Award, the Ministry of Culture's Creative Star Award, the Taipei Design Award, and the Digital Art Performance Award, and have been exhibited internationally at venues including Ars Electronica Festival in Linz, Austria; Bauhaus Museum Weimar, Germany; LEV Festival, Spain; ISEA 2025, Korea; Chroniques Biennale, France; the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts; and iMAL, Belgium. His works are also held in the collections of institutions such as Imperial College London, National Taiwan University, and Le Méridien Taipei.

【Abstract】
Artificial intelligence is not merely a tool for generating images; it can also serve as a method for probing aesthetics that have yet to take shape. Drawing on two previous studies, this lecture explains how large language models and generative AI can be treated as databases of collective cultural imagination, and how iterative translation through prompts, text-to-image, and image-to-text generation can be used to speculate on the visual vocabularies of "quantum aesthetics" and "Anthropocene aesthetics." The lecture also presents works by the Future Narratives Lab that bring together complex systems, quantum technology, environmental issues, and interactive media. It examines how artists can develop new perceptual experiences from scientific models, data, and algorithms, and how AI can be transformed from a creative tool into a roadmap for speculating on, critiquing, and constructing future narratives.
