On September 7, 2026, the Master’s Program in Global Communication and Innovation Technology (GCIT) hosted a Professional Advising Event featuring Ray Lee, Founder and CEO of Corma New Media. Titled “Creating Extraordinary Experiences: Exploring XR, AR, and the Future of Immersive Digital Experiences,” the lecture explored industry applications and emerging trends in extended reality (XR), augmented reality (AR), and immersive digital experiences.

The event opened with remarks from Professor Tammy Lin, Director of GCIT. Professor Lin emphasized the program’s commitment to integrating communication, technology, and industry practice. She noted that the Professional advising Event gives students opportunities to engage directly with industry experts, understand developments in emerging technologies, and consider how innovative tools can become impactful communication and digital experiences.

Drawing on real-world industry cases and hands-on demonstrations, Ray explained how XR can transform audiences from passive viewers into active participants in digital environments. He also highlighted its applications across marketing, education, entertainment, media, exhibitions, and brand experiences.

Ray emphasized that the value of XR lies not simply in adopting new technologies, but in creating meaningful interactions and user experiences. The industry’s long-term development will depend not only on technological advances, but also on identifying practical applications that meet genuine user needs and generate commercial value. As immersive experiences become increasingly realistic, issues such as credibility, privacy, accessibility, and ethical communication will also require greater attention.

During the Q&A session, a student asked about the differences between the VR industries in Taiwan and Japan. Ray explained that VR has become more widely integrated into entertainment and leisure activities in Japan, where more mature commercial models have emerged. In Taiwan, many projects continue to be advanced through government initiatives and cross-sector partnerships, while the industry searches for more scalable and sustainable applications.

Discussing future trends, Ray observed that although head-mounted devices have become technologically mature, their weight and ease of use remain barriers to wider adoption. As artificial intelligence is increasingly integrated into wearable devices, lighter smart glasses designed for everyday use may become a major focus of the industry’s next stage of development.

Through the lecture, students gained a broader understanding of XR and AR from technological, commercial, and ethical perspectives while considering how immersive technologies may reshape the future of digital communication and content creation.
