【Abstract】
NCCU EMI resource center in collaboration with the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT), organizes the "EMI Teaching Development Workshop Series." Designed for educators who value classroom interaction and hands-on practice, this workshop series offers a dynamic roadmap for navigating the challenges of English as a Medium of Instruction (EMI). The curriculum helps bridge the gap between language delivery and disciplinary mastery through active practice and practical application. Participants move beyond theory to build a solid foundation in defining EMI and its core frameworks, learning essential scaffolding techniques to maintain academic rigor without letting language barriers get in the way.

Sessions dive into Intercultural Education Practices, providing actionable insights on how diverse backgrounds shape participation and offering strategies for designing more inclusive learning environments. To promote Critical Thinking and Student Autonomy, educators engage in exercises that apply Bloom’s Taxonomy, ensuring students are intellectually challenged without feeling overwhelmed. The journey wraps up with EMI Student Motivation and Engagement, where participants explore the reasons behind low participation and learn how to energize classrooms using interactive communication patterns and strategic AI tools. By the end, teachers will be equipped to transform their classrooms into lively, student-centered hubs of active learning—a must-attend experience for anyone teaching in the global classroom!

*Participants who attend all four sessions in full will receive a Certificate of Participation jointly issued by the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) and the Center.

【Speaker】
Speaker: Jye Smallwood
Current position: English Language Fellow
Jye Smallwood is currently an English Language Fellow in Taiwan, affiliated with National Chengchi University through a collaboration between the U.S. Department of State’s English Language Fellow Program and the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT). He holds a Master’s degree in Applied Linguistics and Language Teaching from the University of Oxford and is pursuing a Ph.D. in Theoretical and Applied Linguistics at the University of Cambridge. His expertise lies at the intersection of language teaching and academic research, with a particular focus on learning outcomes and assessment methods in EMI contexts.
