GCIT Director Revisits Singapore to Strengthen Academic and Media Industry Collaboration

Dr. Lin Tsui-chuan, Director of the Global Communication and Innovation Technology Program (GCIT) at National Chengchi University, embarked on an academic visit to Singapore in mid-November. She was invited to present Taiwan's deepfake technology research at Nanyang Technological University's Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information (NTU WKWSCI) and facilitated negotiations for cross-border teaching and internship collaborations with several top universities and media industries in Singapore. This visit strengthened GCIT's partnerships with Singapore's leading universities and new media organizations, fostering international learning and internship opportunities for students and infusing new momentum into academic and industry exchanges between Taiwan and Singapore.
【Academic Presentation and Exchange on Deepfake Technology】
On November 12, Director Lin delivered a special lecture at NTU WKWSCI titled "Deepfake Exposure, Detection, and User Responses: Insights from Taiwan's Digital Landscape." She revealed the types of deepfake content encountered by Taiwanese users, the challenges in detecting deepfakes, and the motivations behind sharing or refusing to share deepfake content. She also discussed how Taiwanese online video users' interactions with political deepfakes influence verification and correction behaviors. The lecture, which provided important insights into improving digital literacy to address deepfake challenges, attracted numerous faculty members, students, and researchers, generating enthusiastic discussion. During her visit, Director Lin had in-depth discussions about cross-national research collaboration with Associate Dean Professor Edson Tandoc Jr.'s research team and deepfake research scholar Assistant Professor Saifuddin Ahmed.

During this visit, Director Lin discussed the implementation details with Dr. Wong Pei Wen, Director of WKWSCI's Master of Media and Communication Graduate Programme (MMC), regarding GCIT students taking two intensive courses at their school. She also discussed potential collaboration on "Digital Governance" immersive learning with former WKWSCI Dean Professor Ang Peng Hwa, aiming to provide enriched international learning resources and experiences for students from both institutions.
Director Lin also confirmed plans with Professor Natalie Pang, Head of the Department of Communications and New Media (CNM) at the National University of Singapore (NUS), for overseas course collaboration in the 113-2 semester. This will provide GCIT students with immersive learning experiences in Singapore's new media academic and industry landscape.

During her trip, Director Lin engaged in detailed discussions about industry collaboration and media internships with Kenneth Tan, Chairman of the Singapore Film Society (SFS), and Freddie Yeo, COO of Infinite Studios. GCIT and SFS confirmed internship plans for GCIT students starting in 2025, with ongoing discussions with Infinite Studios. These opportunities will enhance students' international media communication capabilities and global perspective while introducing talented bilingual communication professionals from Taiwan to Singapore.

Director Lin's Singapore visit has established new milestones in collaboration between GCIT and Singaporean academic and industry partners. In terms of international curriculum, GCIT will gradually implement immersive learning programs with NUS CNM and intensive course collaboration with NTU WKWSCI's MMC program. For industry partnerships, SFS will provide media internship opportunities for GCIT students, including exposure to virtual studio technology.
