The Master’s Program in Global Communication and Innovation Technology (GCIT) held its introduction session in late September, attracting many enthusiastic students and participants who were interested in global communication and innovative technology. The event was conducted both online and in-person, allowing participants from various locations to experience the excitement of GCIT firsthand. GCIT team delivered insightful presentations on the unique strengths of the program while current students shared their diverse learning experiences domestically or overseas. These demonstrate how internationalized and professional the GCIT program is, which will benefit our students’ future career development.

GCIT is Taiwan’s first bilingual, interdisciplinary master’s program in international communication (EMI). The program integrates teaching resources from five colleges at NCCU, providing cutting-edge academic and practical training while focusing on cultivating international communication professionals equipped with skills in new media and innovative technology applications. Director Trisha Lin (Distinguished Professor at the College of Communication and the International College of Innovation) emphasized that the program places a strong emphasis on interdisciplinary course design and industry-academia collaboration to help students adapt to the rapidly changing environments and demands of the industry. In addition to offering various scholarships, the program features a unique “dual advising system” with mentorship support from both academic and industry professionals. Students also benefit from domestic internship opportunities and overseas learning stipends, ensuring they receive ample support for both academic and career development.

Director Lin recommended that students freely choose courses from three major areas: International Journalism, Digital Content Creation, and Marketing Technology. She encouraged students to make the most of the program's resources to explore their potential and enhance their international competitiveness. She also shared her experience visiting top universities in Australia and Singapore for academic exchanges during the summer, highlighting how GCIT has strengthened its international industry-academia collaborations. These initiatives have created more international cooperation and exchange opportunities for students, providing a wider range of high-quality options for both domestic and overseas internships or study, helping them build expertise in international communication and broaden their global perspectives.

GCIT Assistant Professor Christine Cook encouraged prospective students to actively explore their interests, whether in global communication, new media applications, or innovative technology. The program offers a diverse range of courses to help students find their best paths in both academic and practical development. She emphasized that GCIT not only focuses on academic excellence but also provides numerous opportunities for students to apply what they learn beyond the classroom. She expressed her eagerness to meet future students in class and create even more innovative ideas together.

During the sharing segment of the information session, current students shared their vibrant learning experiences at GCIT. Students talked about their experiences with course selection, overseas learning, and their Capstone Projects. They highlighted how the knowledge gained in class was applied to real-world work settings, enhancing their professional skills.

One attendee, who works in media industry, took time off from work to attend the event in person. She mentioned that the program’s diverse courses, distinguished faculty, and the availability of scholarships and domestic and international internships attracted her interest, and she is now ready to submit her application.

The GCIT introduction session provided an excellent platform for interaction, allowing participants to fully understand the unique advantages of the GCIT program. It also demonstrated how GCIT is dedicated to helping every student achieve success in both academic and career development. With rich academic and practical resources, including various scholarships, internship stipends, and the dual advising system, GCIT is committed to nurturing future leaders in global communication and innovative technology.
