The Department of Chinese Literature develops academic researchers, high school level Chinese language and literature teachers, literary authors, and cultural experts. The program includes three major divisions: literature, thought, and linguistics, each providing comprehensive training in research and practice. Faculty include renowned specialists in Chinese classical and contemporary literature, literary theory, classical philosophy, Buddhism, Song-Ming neo-Confucianism, philology, phonology, exegesis, research on unearthed manuscripts, Tunhuangology, Japanese sinology and others. The Department is a thriving center for research in the field of Chinese literature, hosting a full calendar of international symposiums and conferences, and regularly sends representatives to leading conferences around the world.
