Germany and Taiwan: Common values and common challenges

Germany and Taiwan both cherish the values of freedom, democracy, the rule of law, and human rights. In the face of emerging challenges, including rising geopolitical tensions, the restructuring of global supply chains, and economic security concerns, how can Germany and Taiwan deepen their cooperation and work together to address these challenges?

This lecture features Karsten Tietz, Director General of the German Institute Taipei, as the keynote speaker. Having served in the German Federal Foreign Office for many years, he brings extensive expertise in international economic and trade law, as well as Asian affairs. Drawing on the perspectives of Germany and Europe, he will examine the shared values underpinning German-Taiwanese relations, the common challenges they face today, and future opportunities for cooperation in trade and economic relations, technology, and democratic resilience.
