Under the support of “The World Excellence 100” program, National Chengchi University’s (NCCU)The chair of the Department of Arabic Language and Culture Ching-An Chang and two Arabic Language teachers Mahmoud Abdeldeen and Yi-Hsuan Fu visited the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the Sultanate of Oman from October 16, 2025 to October 26, 2025. The delegation visited four academic institutions and two research centers. This visit aimed to establish further collaboration and exchange between NCCU and regional Arabic academic institutions in the realms of research and education.

The trip began with a visit to Sheikh Dr. Abdul Aziz A. Al Nuaimi’s official residence. Sheikh Al Nuaimi is a member of the UAE’s royal family. Earlier this year, Sheikh Al Nuaimi led a delegation to visit NCCU’s Arabic Department. The exchange was positive, leading NCCU’s Arabic Department to visit the UAE in return, and laying a foundation for further exchanges.

After this, the NCCU delegation paid a visit to the Emirate of Sharjah’s Arabic Language Academy and was personally received by Secretary General Dr. Mohamed Safi Al Mosteghanemi. Both parties discussed possible future collaborations in Arabic education and research, and the atmosphere was very warm and enthusiastic.

After the exchange at the Arabic Language Academy, the Secretary-General specially arranged for the delegation to visit Al Qasimia University (AQU), also located in and managed by the Emirate of Sharjah. AQU’s President Professor Awad Alkhalaf personally received the NCCU delegation, and not only enthusiastically introduced the school’s Arabic language educational program, but also signed an agreement to establish a cooperative relationship with NCCU, offering a one year full Arabic language scholarship for NCCU students to encourage studying at AQU.

Following this, the NCCU delegation toured the local Quranic Studies Center, which is directly managed by the Emirate of Sharjah. During this visit, the NCCU delegation gained a deep understanding of the Quranic Studies Center’s systematic management and research accomplishments in the domains of history, transmissions, classical texts, and ancient record preservation.

In the following days while visiting the University of Sharjah (USharjah), the NCCU delegation was welcomed by the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences Dean Zahia Smail Salhi, Associate Professor and Vice Dean Saleh Muhammad Zeiki and Professor Mahmood Al Lehaibi. Both parties held a discussion which was attended by teachers from the Department of Arabic Language and Literature and the Department of History and Islamic Civilization. In the meeting, Dean Zahia expressed her hope that both schools could sign a collaboration agreement, participate in shared research, enable faculty-student exchanges, and deepen research cooperation in the domain of Arab Studies. Dean Zahia also mentioned that USharjah had a large interest in teaching Chinese language.

After concluding the UAE itinerary, the NCCU delegation traveled to Oman to connect with two universities: Sohar University (SU) and Sultan Qaboos University (SQU). SU was the delegation's first stop. SU had signed a memorandum of cooperation with NCCU’s Arabic Department. SU’s President Professor Dr. Hamdan Sulaiman Al Fazari personally welcomed the delegation and both universities’ teachers held a discussion in the language center. Professor Hamdan affirmed that in recent years, the joint collaboration between both schools had accomplished many achievements, and he looked forward to making further steps in collaboration and deepening academic and cultural exchanges.

In the trip’s final days, the NCCU delegation made a visit to Oman’s top ranked university, Sultan Qaboos University. The NCCU delegation was personally welcomed by SQU College of Arts and Social Sciences Assistant Dean Professor Mohammed Al-Alawi, and was warmly invited to participate in a discussion with the Arabic Language Department and International Affairs staff. Professor Mohammed expressed that he welcomed further collaboration with NCCU, recommending that Arabic language become a starting point for collaboration. He also expressed that promoting student-faculty exchanges and experimental learning professor exchanges could serve as starting points for collaboration between both schools.
During this trip, the NCCU delegation not only visited local academic institutions, but also visited the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Dubai, Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in the Sultanate of Oman, TECO Dubai Director Chun-Chi Chen, and TECO Oman Ambassador Hua-Wei Mou, to have discussion on how both parties could advance cooperation and bilateral exchanges.

Through this trip to UAE and Oman, NCCU diligently deepened academic collaboration, and further reinforced mechanisms for collaboration with the Arabic speaking world. By sustaining the connections made during this visit, NCCU will continue to serve as a leading institution developing internationally oriented, cross-cultural talent.
