A letter from NCCU President

Date : 2021-05-22 Department : Secretariat
Dear Students, Faculty and Staff of NCCU,

With the continuous spread of the epidemic, a student from NCCU has tested positive for COVID-19. We need to face this situation in a calm manner, and try our best to prevent it from spreading further. We also hope and pray for the fast recovery of this student. This will be a difficult test, but we will face it bravely, and we will not panic.

I once again ask all of our students, faculty and staff to comply with all epidemic prevention regulations, and stay home or inside the dormitories as much as possible. If you must go out, please wear a mask, even in open areas such as the sports stadiums or outdoor campus areas. Please be sure to abide by the rules of no more than five people gatherings indoors and no more than ten people gatherings outdoors.

All colleges, graduate schools, and departments must establish and maintain effective communication channels with all students. If any student were to have questions or concerns, they can immediately reach out to their colleges, schools, or departments, whether it be epidemic prevention related, or about their studies and life, or if they have psychological counseling needs. They can all reach out to this number. Tel: 0919-099-119

Our international, mainland, and overseas Chinese students living in Taiwan alone are especially in need of special care at this time. All colleges, schools, and departments, especially the professors, must keep in contact with them. We will try our best to solve any problems.

The current confirmed case is a student living in Building D of the Tenth Tzu-Chiang Dormitory. The student left the campus on May 17th to return home, and started experiencing symptoms on the 19th. A diagnosis was made on the 21st.

The health authorities will investigate the contact history of this student 14 days prior, from May 5th - 19th. The student was on campus from May 15th to May 17th. This period is crucial. The school will track the people the student was in contact with and the premises he has visited, and take relevant measures in accordance with the epidemic prevention guidelines.

In regards to this case, we express our most sincere care to this student. This student will need to face physical and mental sufferings and panic. Let’s cheer this student on. Prior to this case, a student from our university was diagnosed after returning from abroad, and has since fully recovered. We have faith in Taiwan’s medical system.

As for other students, faculty or staff who need to self isolate or conduct independent health management, please cooperate with the health authorities and the school to implement relevant anti-epidemic measures. All our students, faculty and staff will be cheering you on.

As I said in the university anniversary celebration, we are reborn and continue to grow in hardships. We overcome obstacles again and again, and continue to march forward bravely. This time will be the same, without a doubt.

Again, if you have any questions, please feel free to contact us anytime. We are all in this together. No one will be alone and helpless.

Lastly, I dedicate a song I listened to when I was young, Joan Baez's "We Shall Overcome" to you all. Yes, we will come out the other side and win.
