On November 28, 2025, the Beta Gamma Sigma (BGS) National Chengchi University (NCCU) Chapter held its 18th Induction Ceremony at the Yi-Yu Hall on the 6th floor of the College of Commerce. A total of 23 outstanding students from various departments of the College received their certificates and officially became new BGS members. Their induction represents a recognition of their academic excellence and professional achievements, marking an important milestone and the beginning of their journey onto the international stage.
Beta Gamma Sigma (BGS) is an international business honor society recognized by AACSB International, with rigorous membership requirements. According to BGS regulations, candidates must achieve a conduct score of at least 80, and undergraduate students must rank in the top 10% of their class, while graduate students must rank in the top 20% to be eligible for nomination. Since its establishment in 2008, the NCCU Chapter has invited a total of 584 outstanding students to join and will continue to serve as a platform for students to broaden their international horizons. Associate Dean for International Affairs Professor Yenn-Ru Chen emphasized that BGS membership not only symbolizes individual academic excellence, but also represents the College of Commerce’s long-term commitment to business education and its efforts to cultivate students capable of competing and making an impact in the global business arena.
In her speech, Associate Dean Chen noted that we live in an era of global challenges, where events in one country can easily influence the world. No nation can remain unaffected—and Taiwan, located at the center of Asia, faces sensitive cross-strait geopolitical dynamics. Precisely because of this, Taiwan must demonstrate flexibility and resilience to thrive in the international environment. She cited Taiwan’s semiconductor development as an example: decades of continuous investment in technology and engineering have established Taiwan’s pivotal role in the global supply chain. As global attention focuses on geopolitical shifts and industrial strategies, Taiwan should not view overseas expansion or supply chain diversification solely from the perspective of “risk,” but rather see them as opportunities to expand Taiwan’s value worldwide. As long as we remain committed to solving customers’ problems and creating value for global society, Taiwan will continue to shine across industries.
Beyond Taiwan’s resilience and growing international influence, Associate Dean Chen encouraged new members to take initiative and contribute actively rather than passively waiting for opportunities. She shared her own story: she never expected to become President of the Asian Finance Association, Associate Dean for International Affairs of the College of Commerce, or Chair for the Asia & Asia Pacific Region at the Partnership in International Management (PIM). She once believed such positions belonged to others. Yet through continuous effort and demonstrating her value, opportunities naturally came her way. She encouraged the students, “When opportunities come your way, are you prepared to take them on?” This, she emphasized, is the key. She reminded new members to stay passionate, keep learning, and trust that their hard work will eventually be recognized globally.
The newly inducted members also shared their thoughts and expectations. Yan-ting Wang, from the Department of Finance, stated she first learned about BGS through an upperclassman, and later realized that BGS provides valuable international resources and conference opportunities that will greatly benefit her future exchange and career development abroad. Yun-Ting Hsia, student from the Department of International Business, noted that BGS is a global network connecting top business talent and will serve as an important platform for building international professional connections. She believes that BGS’s reputation and institutional network will give her more options when applying for graduate studies overseas. Yu-Hsuan Hu, from the Department of Business Administration said that joining BGS is a significant recognition of her hard work during college, especially since the society maintains stringent selection criteria, making BGS a reputable and internationally recognized honor that will benefit her professional future. IMBA student Ronan Thomas Oldroyd shared his expectation to pursue a career in finance and believes that BGS membership will strengthen his competitiveness when applying for jobs or graduate studies in the United States.
The ceremony was hosted by Associate Dean Chen, who personally presented certificates to each member and led all members in pledging to uphold the core values of BGS—Honor, Wisdom, and Earnestness. She concluded by once again encouraging the new members to believe in themselves, continue learning, and embrace challenges. With their talents and passion, they will continue to make an impact on the global stage. The 2025 BGS Induction Ceremony concluded with a group photo of the new members and faculty.
