On October 19, NCCU hosted the “Super Athletes” opening ceremonies at the university’s Siwei Hall, featuring nearly 120 athletes from Taiwan, Japan,Vietnam, Germany, Turkey, France, the United States and other countries.This year is the 9 th anniversary of the International Friendship Games. To mark the occasion, the NCCU Office of International Cooperation invited representatives from National Taiwan University, National Taiwan Normal University, and the National Taiwan University of Science and Technology to participate, making it the largest such sporting event for international students in northern Taiwan. International students from the four universities formed 23 teams competing against each other in soccer, basketball and “bubble ball”. Cheered on by enthusiastic crowds of classmates, the schools’ international students lived up to expectations and won three championships in basketball and bubble ball. The opening ceremony kicked off with rap and hip hop performances. The activities then moved to the university’s hilltop athletic facilities for basketball and soccer, while the bubble ball competition took place in Siwei Hall. Starting with light showers in the morning, the weather grew steadily worse through the day, but the wind and rain couldn’t dampen the competitive spirits of the athletes. Ferit Oğuztürk, a freshman at IMAS from Turkey was full of enthusiasm for the day’s events. “This is fantastic,” he said. “All the staff and organization is completely professional, and there’s a true spirit of good sportsmanship. One of our teammates was injured during the game, and immediately all the action stopped while officials and members of both teams attended to our player. We really appreciated the care and consideration.”
