The 92nd Anniversary Celebration Ceremony of NCCU was held May 20 at the College of Commerce E. Sun International Conference Hall, where over a hundred faculty, alumni and students gathered for the grand occasion. This year’s anniversary symbol was the Fairy Lily, which signifies perseverance and represents NCCU’s indomitable spirit. President Ming-Cheng Kuo (郭明政) remarked, “Students from NCCU’s colleges of Liberal Arts, Commerce and Law have long been favored by the industries, ranking No. 1 by reputation and in evaluations nationwide.”

With the purpose of pursuing further progress, President Kuo announced the upcoming “Luo Jia-Lun (羅家倫) International Sinology Seminar”. He expressed gratitude to NCCU alumni for their generous contribution in its funding, and thanked the Academia Sinica for its support. NCCU hopes to place itself at the forefront of the field of sinology, and play its part in bonding the Chinese cultural world in the future. President Kuo then relvealed another piece of good news: this year the Ministry of Education has granted NCCU additional funding under the Higher Education Sprout Project, reaching a total of 330 million NTD, which serves as recognition of NCCU’s efforts to internationalize education.

The ceremony kicked off amidst the melodious singing of two Hakka and Southern Min verses by the Cheng Sheng Chorus, reflecting NCCU’s spirit of valuing multiculturalism. Distinguished faculty and students were commended during the ceremony and acknowledged for their efforts and remarkable performances.

In terms of Taiwan’s future outlook, President Kuo said, “As a top-notch university, NCCU should regard Taiwan’s overall development as part of its responsibility and avoid making idle complaints; If we progress well, we shall be proud to have put in the effort; if not, NCCU shall bear the responsibility collectively.”

NCCU will continue to increase opportunities for exchange with international universities, delve deeper into the fields of sinology and teaching Chinese as a second language; and with the Taiwanese and Asian experience as a starting point, cultivate multilingual proficiency and continue to thrive internationally. Finally, under the lead of President Kuo, all sang the university anthem as a perfect conclusion to the ceremony.
