This summer, the Career Center of National Chengchi University (NCCU) partnered with LH Bank in Thailand for the first time—a subsidiary of CTBC Bank—to launch a summer internship program in Bangkok, Thailand, lasting approximately one and a half months. Seven NCCU students traveled to the Bangkok head office for hands-on, cross-border internships, working side-by-side with students from top Thai universities to complete tasks across various departments and group projects, opening a new chapter in NCCU's international career development.

First Collaboration: Building a Bridge for Cross-Border Internships

This collaboration marks a major step in expanding the overseas internship map for the NCCU Career Center. Held during the summer, the program sent a total of seven NCCU students—five Taiwanese students and two Thai international students. Representing diverse academic backgrounds, the students came from the Department of Business Administration, Department of Diplomacy, Department of Land Economics, Department of Southeast Asian Languages and Literatures (Thai Language Program), Department of Finance, and Department of Financial Management. Spanning business and management, law and politics, language, and regional studies, they showcased NCCU's hallmark strength in cross-disciplinary talent cultivation.

During the internship, NCCU students teamed up with Thai local students from top three Thai universities—Chulalongkorn University, Thammasat University, and Mahidol University—to tackle departmental duties and group projects together. Working, discussing, and collaborating within the same professional environment alongside peers from different schools and nationalities allowed them to not only hone their professional skills but also learn how to communicate and coordinate in a multicultural setting.

Lectures and Mock Interviews: Gaining Insight into Banking Operations

The Human Resources department of LH Bank planned a comprehensive learning and networking program for the interns. In addition to organizing multiple specialized lectures that introduced students to banking operations and development from various perspectives, HR also hosted mock interviews to help students understand workplace expectations and prepare early for future job hunting.

Furthermore, the HR department designed diverse activities to encourage interaction between students from both countries. Through these activities, Thai and Taiwanese students transitioned from strangers to close friends, supporting each other at work and building deep friendships in daily life that laid a solid foundation for future international networks.

One-on-One Mentorship: Close Guidance from Executives and Mentors

Within each department, LH Bank assigned a dedicated mentor to each student using a one-on-one coaching model, offering detailed guidance on daily tasks, professional knowledge, and workplace attitudes. Department executives also carefully tailored learning assignments based on each student’s background and interests, ensuring that students were not mere observers, but active participants gaining real-world experience. Both mentors and supervisors were professional, eager to share their experiences, and patient in answering questions, allowing students to benefit immensely in just a month and a half.

Dialogue with Expatriate Elite: A Close-Up Look at Banking and Overseas Work

Throughout the internship, students also had the opportunity to engage in deep discussions with senior executives and elite expatriate staff dispatched by CTBC Bank to its Thai subsidiary. These expatriates shared professional banking techniques, the challenges and adjustments of working cross-nationally, and the reality of life abroad, giving students a concrete and vivid understanding of international career paths.

Through these conversations, students realized that nearly everyone working at a commercial bank's head office is a top-tier expert in their field. Observing them closely, the students witnessed the work methods, efficiency, professional attitude, and high-standard work environment of these elite professionals, which deeply inspired them and gave them greater clarity on their personal goals and direction.

Warmth After Work: Helping Overseas Students Experience Thailand

Beyond professional learning, bank supervisors and mentors took great care of the Taiwanese students far from home. Many of them generously supported the younger generation, even organizing special after-work activities to guide students around Bangkok, introducing them to local culture and cuisine. This allowed the students to deeply experience Thailand’s culture and lifestyle amidst their busy internships, while feeling the deep warmth and hospitality of the locals.

Sun Yu-Cheng, a student from the Surveying Program in the Department of Land Economics who interned in the Business Research Department, shared: "The surveying curriculum in the Department of Land Economics has always emphasized cross-disciplinary learning, and I’ve personally had a strong interest in the banking industry. Interning in the Business Research Department helped me understand that a bank's business scope and research directions are equally diverse and comprehensive. Working with teammates from different schools and countries taught me how to communicate and collaborate in a multicultural environment. This experience was much more than just an internship—it was a fulfilling and deeply meaningful journey of growth that gave me greater confidence in heading toward the international job market."

NCCU Career Center to Deepen Overseas Internship Partnerships

The remarkable success of this first collaboration with LH Bank not only gave students firsthand exposure to the international financial workplace but also demonstrated the professional competence and global competitiveness of NCCU students. Moving forward, the NCCU Career Center will continue deepening partnerships with corporate allies to expand overseas internship opportunities, helping students bridge toward the global stage and cultivating a new generation of talent equipped with cross-cultural communication skills and global mobility.
