The Master's Program in Global Communication and Innovation Technology (GCIT) at National Chengchi University (NCCU) hosted its Fall 2026 Orientation on September 4. The event was attended by NCCU President Tsai-Yen Li, Dean of the International College of Innovation Vance Lo, and GCIT Director and Distinguished Professor Tammy Lin. International media professionals, including TVBS Head of English News Dimitri Bruyas and Bloomberg Senior Editor Adrian Kennedy, also joined the event to share insights and encourage the incoming students from both academic and industry perspectives.

In his remarks, NCCU President Tsai-Yen Li said that GCIT is a program that NCCU is proud of, offering students diverse opportunities for interdisciplinary learning, internships, and overseas study. He encouraged the new students to make the most of the university’s resources, broaden their global perspectives, and develop the professional skills needed to navigate a rapidly changing world.

Dean Vance Lo, who had just taken office in August, welcomed the students to NCCU as a “new student” himself. He encouraged them to step beyond the classroom, approach cultural differences with an open mind, and make the most of their university experience. GCIT Director Tammy Lin introduced the program’s development and learning features, highlighting its integration of resources from five NCCU colleges—the College of Communication, College of Informatics, College of Law, College of Liberal Arts, and the International College of Innovation—to create an interdisciplinary and bilingual learning environment. She also introduced GCIT’s unique dual-mentorship system and two graduation pathways—a capstone project or a thesis—while guiding new students through their academic planning and available resources.

Seven faculty members attended the orientation in person to introduce their courses, including GCIT Assistant Professors Chrissy Cook and Tim Chang; Required Course instructors Associate Professor Vanessa Chiang and Assistant Professor-Level Technical Expert Richy Li; course instructors Adjunct Associate Professor-Level Technical Expert Elle Huang and Adjunct Assistant Professor-Level Technical Expert Patrick Lin; and co-instructor Assistant Professor Yoyo Hou. Distinguished Professor Trisha Lin and Adjunct Associate Professor-Level Technical Expert Michael Yu introduced their courses through video messages. Covering new media, international journalism, human-computer interaction, marketing technology, and global communication culture, the curriculum reflects GCIT’s interdisciplinary approach and responds to evolving trends in media and technology.

The orientation also featured a visit to the Virtual Studio, where Forevertek Post-Production Manager Peter Su and Multimedia Visual Engineer Jamie Lin introduced virtual technology and its applications in communication. The event concluded with a networking luncheon, where senior students shared their experiences in GCIT courses, domestic and overseas internships, and professional practice reports, helping new students gain a better understanding of the program and student life.

With encouraging remarks from university and academic leaders, insights from industry and media professionals, hands-on experiences, and interaction with senior students, the Fall 2026 Orientation concluded successfully. GCIT looks forward to supporting the new cohort as they embark on their interdisciplinary journey in global communication and technology.
