Organized by the Taipei City Government Department of Education, co-organized by National Chengchi University and University of Taipei, and hosted by Taipei Municipal Dali High School, the MIT × SSD Inter-School Workshop held its student project presentation symposium and competition on April 22, 2026, at the Bo’ai Campus of University of Taipei.

The workshop integrates systems dynamics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) with the concept of Sustainable System Development (SSD), providing an inter-school international learning platform for high school students. The event brought together students from eight high schools in Taipei City. Through systems thinking, sustainability-focused inquiry, and English-language project presentations, students developed interdisciplinary analytical skills and international communication abilities to address global issues.

The judging panel included Professor Min-Ren Yan, Honorary Dean of the Industry Innovation Research Institute at National Chengchi University; Assistant Professor Christine Cook from the Master’s Program in Global Communication and Innovation Technology (GCIT), National Chengchi University; Professor Matilde Hong from Lancaster University; Professor Hsin-Chih Lin, Chair of the Graduate Institute of Educational Administration and Evaluation at University of Taipei; and Deputy Commissioner Chin-Chuan Teng of the Taipei City Government Department of Education.

The panel provided professional feedback to participating students based on their research topics, systems analysis, sustainability perspectives, English presentation skills, and overall project quality. Assistant Professor Christine Cook of GCIT was invited to serve as a judge, highlighting GCIT’s strengths in global communication, English-medium education, intercultural communication, and global issue analysis.

Professor Cook has long been committed to helping students understand social and technological issues through an international lens and to transform local observations into research outcomes that can engage in global dialogue through English presentations and intercultural communication. Her participation also reflects GCIT’s core mission of cultivating talents with global perspectives, interdisciplinary integration skills, and international communication competence. The top three teams in the competition were Taipei Digital Experimental High School, Taipei Municipal Bai Ling High School, and Taipei Jingxin High School. Their research topics covered wetland conservation, the impact of social media on adolescent behavior, and the balance between technology park development and ecological sustainability, demonstrating high school students’ strong engagement with global sustainability and social issues.

GCIT noted that Assistant Professor Cook’s participation as a judge in the MIT × SSD Inter-School Workshop represents the program’s continued effort to extend its strengths in internationalization, interdisciplinary innovation, and global communication education to the high school education sector. Moving forward, GCIT will continue to integrate National Chengchi University’s cross-college resources, international faculty, and industry-academia networks to promote teaching and public engagement initiatives that connect with global issues, respond to social needs, and advance sustainability-focused education.
