題目：Broca’s Area Processes Hierarchically Structured Symbolic Sequences

摘要：The lecture presents human cognition as fundamentally symbolic, arguing that language, mathematics, and drawing all depend on the ability to construct hierarchically organized symbolic sequences. Neuroimaging data demonstrate that Broca’s area is selectively engaged by such hierarchical structures across domains—including language, arithmetic (e.g., reverse Polish notation), and drawing—independent of working-memory load. Archaeological evidence of early symbolic art, contrasted with the absence of comparable artifacts among Neanderthals, supports the view that an expanded arcuate fasciculus enabled Homo sapiens to access conceptual representations and externalize them as structured symbolic sequences.
