Nora Mankel, a student in the Master’s Program in Global Communication and Innovation Technology (GCIT) at National Chengchi University, took part in the 2025 Broadcast Education Association (BEA) Convention and the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) Show, held in early April at the Las Vegas Convention Center. The events gathered thousands of media scholars, industry leaders, and technology experts from around the world.
At BEA2025, which hosted over 1,200 attendees, Mankel presented her capstone thesis, "Lost in Sensation – Comparing Fear-Narratives in Taiwan’s Mandarin and English News," during the digital poster session "Grand Plans & Great Expectations." Invited by Professor Gregory Luft of Colorado State University, she joined scholars in sharing research on global media trends and engaged in insightful discussions about Taiwan’s news landscape.
Mankel’s research was supervised by Assistant Professor Christine Cook, a GCIT faculty member specializing in media psychology. Professor Cook’s work focuses on online deviant behavior, trolling culture, and cyberbullying. She played a key role in supporting Mankel’s academic journey and encouraged her to participate in the BEA Convention.
Meanwhile, the NAB Show welcomed more than 55,000 professionals and showcased cutting-edge technologies in broadcasting, AI, and content production. Mankel explored innovations such as the Insta360 Ace Pro 2, an award-winning 8K AI-powered camera, and observed live demonstrations by industry leaders including Sony and Canon.
Distinguished Professor Trisha Lin, Director of GCIT at NCCU, emphasized the program’s focus on combining research with industry practice and fostering global exchange. GCIT aims to develop media and tech talent with global vision and interdisciplinary skills to boost Taiwan’s international competitiveness.
