On December 6, the Master’s program in Global Communication and Innovation Technology (GCIT) at National Chengchi University held its 4th Capstone Project Presentation at the university's Research and Innovation Center.
The event featured two distinguished guest speakers,: Associate Professor Shane Mathews from the QUT Business School at Queensland University of Technology and Associate Professor Vickie Chen from the Department of Communications at National Chung Cheng University.
The presenting students addressed contemporary topics in their research proposals, including social media applications, the use of AI in health communication, innovations in public relations strategies, political participation, and brand emotion building.
Dr. Mathews praised the creativity and academic value of the topics chosen by the students, providing detailed feedback to help refine their research. For studies on political participation, he pointed out the potential bias introduced by algorithmic filtering and recommended incorporating more contextual information to understand the uniqueness of Taiwan's voting behavior. He stressed the importance of emotional connections and immersive experiences for branding research. He suggested a deeper analysis of immersive environments' most effective messaging strategies and design principles. Additionally, he encouraged students to explore how augmented reality (AR) technology can enhance brand storytelling.
Dr. Chen praised the students for their ambitious and practical research topics and offered actionable suggestions to improve their study designs. She stressed the importance of establishing more evident connections between theoretical frameworks and research questions, especially regarding how AI technology is transforming the public relations industry, its applications in crisis management, and the new insights provided by chatbot-driven communication. Additionally, Dr. Chen encouraged students to avoid assuming readers are familiar with their research context. She urged them to include sufficient background information and innovative perspectives to ensure their work is accessible and impactful for industry professionals.
In her closing remarks, GCIT Director Professor Lin Tsui-Chuan emphasized her commitment to encouraging student interest in research topics that hold both academic and practical significance. She underscored the need to balance theoretical rigor with real-world applicability, urging students to think about the future development of their research and its implications for relevant industries. Professor Lin also highlighted the importance of developing independent research skills and finding suitable advisors to assist students in completing their projects.
GCIT supports its students by providing scholarship funding for capstone projects and organizing networking events to broaden their perspectives. The program aims to promote student participation in local and international academic activities, enabling them to build expertise and enhance their research skills.
