"Previously known as the Japanese Division within the Department of Eastern Languages, the Japanese Program was founded in 1989. Due to various types of constraints during the initial stages of development, the Division experienced a shortage of faculty and equipment. However, through the continuous efforts of the faculty and students in recent years, the Division has built a solid foundation. In 1998, the Japanese Division was renamed as the Department of Japanese and began its Master’s Program in 2003."
