National Chengchi University (NCCU) President Edward Chow (周行一) participated in the 2016 German-Taiwanese Higher Education Policy Forum in Berlin and sought for resolutions on higher education with his German counterparts, while he also visited three universities for anchoring partnership with them between Nov. 26 and Dec. 2.
“Merging between universities could be the main policy in Taiwan and Germany,” Chow said.
Echoing Chow, German Rectors’ Conference President Horst Hippler said that decreasing birthrate has been a problem for both countries.
The German-Taiwanese Higher Education Policy Forum was held by Foundation of International Cooperation in Higher Education and the German Rectors’ Conference between Nov. 28 and Nov. 29, when participants discussed issues that concerned the situation and problems of higher education and tried to work them out.
In addition to the forum, Chow also visited Freie Universität Berlin, University of Trier and University of Goettingen for anchoring partnership with them.
At University of Trier, President Michael Jaeckel said that he also wanted to work with NCCU counterparts on research projects that concern social sciences.
