NCCU Elected Seven Distinguished Alumni
In 2017, NCCU elected seven distinguished alumni, listed as Li Jin-cyuan(李金銓), Wu Fong-shan(吳豐山), Su Ci(蘇起), Shan De-sing(單德興), Li Siao-yuan(李小媛), Jiang Fong-nian(姜豐年) and Yu Ji-long(于紀隆) (arranged in order by the graduated year).
Elected as the prominent alumnus of Academics field, Li Jin-cyuan, Chair Professor of Department of Media and Communication, City University of Hong Kong, is evaluated as the top researcher in communication in the world rank by Asian Journal of Communication. Graduated from the department of Journalism in 1969, Li states that “My life was determined during my years in NCCU. I expect NCCU to lead, inspire, cultivate and develop globalization.”
As the current director of T.H. Wu Foundation, Wu Fong-Shan attained the Honorary Academy Award of the foundation for Excellent Journalism Award in 2012, his comprehensive achievement spanned politics and journalism. Wu graduated from the Department of Political Science in 1969, and got his Journalism Master in 1971. Wu encourages students “to discipline, oppress and torture as a competent person”.
Su-Ci, director of the Foundation of Taipei Forum, graduated from the Department of Diplomacy in 1971, was also the Director of Government Information Office, Minister without Portfolio of Executive Yuan, Chairman of the MAC (Mainland Affairs Council), legislator and Secretary of National Security Council. “It is necessary to step out of the comfort zone to integrate with the globe, for consolidating Taiwan’s diplomacy” stated Su.
Serving as the distinguished research fellow at Institute of European and American Studies, Academia Sinica, Shan De-sing graduated from the Department of Western Languages and Literature in 1976. Shan De-sing specialized particularly in literature and translation. He further believes in finding the advantage and aiming at the direction, can make the neglected branches popular.
Serving as the distinguished research fellow at Academia Sinica, Li Siao-yuan graduated from the Department of Psychology in 1977. She was awarded by the Ministry of Education of the Academic Award and the Ten Outstanding Young Women. Li calls NCCU for laying more emphasis on basic education and strengthening multi-direction development.
Harvest Capital Group director Jiang Fong-nian was also the founder of Sina Corporation. Jiang graduated from the Department of Diplomacy in 1981, combining his talents in commerce and sports. In 2017, as NCCU celebrates its 90th anniversary, Jiang sponsored to form the first Men’s Division I Basketball Team of NCCU, promoting sports spirit and building cohesion.
Yu Ji-long, CEO of the KPMG Accounting Firm, graduated from the department of accounting in 1989 and got his master degree of accounting also from NCCU in 1993. After graduation, he joined the KPMG and served as one of the most prestigious accountant until today. Yu says he is thankful to have met professors and friends who have influenced him lifelong during his college years, encouraging everyone to find their life goal and keep passionate for it.
