SEASIA was established in 2013 by ten leading area-studies institutions in Northeast and Southeast Asia to promote region-based Southeast Asian studies. Its members consist of top research institutions, including Center for Asian-Pacific Area Studies of Acadia Sinica and Taiwan Association of Southeast Asian Studie. Before applying for the membership, NCCU has already assisted in holding international conferences, such as AYSEA 2016. In this November, CSEAS will also cooperate with Kyoto University to hold an international conference regarding Southeast Asian studies of new generation, developing new potential for the Southeast Asian research.
Yang Hao(楊昊), Chief Executive Officer of CSEAS of NCCU, attributes this memorable moment to President Chow's and professor Wang Jen-hwan(王振寰)'s great support, as they contribute to the establishment of NCCU’s CSEAS. He also expressed appreciation to Vice President Chen Shu-heng(陳樹衡), for his promotion of NCCU’s Southeast Asian research and New Southbound feature, and Liu Yu-liI(劉幼琍), Dean of Office of Research and Development, for her constant support and encouragement. CSEAS will play a more active role in cooperating with local and foreign institutions to conduct influential Southeast Asian research.
President Edward Chow emphasizes that almost all global problems belong to the fields of Humanities and Social Sciences. Therefore, NCCU is undoubtedly the school to provide suggestions and solutions to these problems. NCCU CSEAS signifies a new step towards the school's internationalization. It will keep strengthening its research energy on Southeast Asian studies, bringing its advantage of diverse interdisciplinary fields into full play, connecting the local with the global, and enhancing its global mobility and competitiveness in the future.
