Eldon Y. Li (李有仁), the chair of the Department of Management Information Systems at National Chengchi University (NCCU), has been elected as the vice president for the Global Activities of the Decision Sciences Institute (DSI), which is a global professional organization founded in the USA, on March 2.
The Decision Sciences Institute (DSI), which is devoted to fostering and disseminating knowledge to decision making, is one of the international and professional organizations at the presence. The organization publishes sciences journals every year and also organizes annual meetings in different cities. It has five regional subdivisions in the United States, as well as four independently operating regional subdivisions separately in Europe, Mexico, Asia-Pacific and the Indian subcontinent.
Li took part in the organization in 1989, when he was almost finishing his doctorate degree, at the Texas Tech University (TTU). In 1998, Li started his work on Asia Pacific Decision Sciences Institute (APDSI). It was APDSI’s third anniversary when Li joined, which also made him the founder of the website of this regional branch, while he is still working there today.
“The decision sciences could be applied on all academic disciplines, especially social sciences,” Li said. “The decision sciences are aiming at making decisions scientifically.”
DSI is a renowned academic organization with lots of scholars. Li said, however, that he is the only Taiwanese at the institute, while he is helping the APDSI organizing a conference in Beijing this July.
He encouraged Taiwanese students to develop their language, which he believed is just the first step to compete with others in today’s world. He also encouraged his students, especially those who are working on their doctorate degrees, to attend international seminars at least once during their studies for enhancing their foreign language abilities and making themselves visible on the international stage.
