    New partnership with new but promising University in Indonesia—Pertamina University

    Delegation of Pertamina University – one of Indonesia’s youngest institutions of higher education – has made their second visit to National Chengchi University on November 2. Rector Prof. Dr. Akhmaloka, also former Rector of Bandung Institute of Technology from 2010-2015, and Vice Rector for Research, Development and Partnership Dr. Budi Soetjipto had initiated the discussions on cooperation with NCCU earlier this May. Thus, the basis for an agreement and plans on collaborative activities had already been formed prior to the representatives’ arrival on campus this time. Both sides signed Memorandum of Understanding and Addendum following a final round of fruitful discussions.

    NCCU’s 2018 Study Abroad Fair Attracts A Large Audience of Local Students and Stirs Up Curiosity over Student Exchange Opportunities

    NCCU’s annual Study Abroad Fair has just come to an end, having provided four days full of information, experience sharing, and resources for everyone interested in going on an exchange abroad. The fair, organized by the Office of International Cooperation (OIC), took place from October 22 to October 25 and aimed at exciting curiosity and provoking interest in an education overseas. Under the motto of expanding NCCU students’ horizon, Si Wei Hall - which served as the venue of the opening day event - was flooded with inquisitive and enthusiastic students on Monday afternoon. A total of 52 booths of NCCU’s partner universities offered visitors the opportunity to interact and consult with the student representatives of the various schools. In that way, attendees were able to receive first-hand information on topics such as student life, academic aspects, and cultural elements.

    NCCU Receives the 2018 Outstanding International Student Services Award

    Taiwan’s Ministry of Education (MOE) and the Foundation of International Cooperation in Higher Education of Taiwan (FICHET) have jointly held the “2018 International Affairs Executive Board Conference” at the Taipei International Convention Center on October 11. Striving towards the goal of internationalizing Taiwanese university campuses, several universities and individual university staffs from all over Taiwan have been evaluated throughout the past months. That is, in order to acknowledge those universities and individuals, who have extensively contributed in supporting international students in Taiwan. Eventually, and following an intensive selection process involving a review team as well as a number of invited scholars and distinguished experts, four outstanding schools have been rewarded. Vice President for International Cooperation, Prof. Mei-Fen Chen, attended the ceremony and accepted this honorable prize on behalf of the university.

    Russia’s Flagship University in Education Visits NCCU –Student and Faculty Exchange Program with MSPU Will Start Soon

    September 20 marks the day of the prestigious visit of three high-ranking representatives of Moscow State Pedagogical University (MSPU) to NCCU. Upon invitation by the Taiwanese Ministry of Education (MOE), MSPU Rector Dr. Alexey Lubkov, Director of Foreign Languages Institute Mr. Sergey Zasorin, and the Deputy Head of MSPU’s International Relations Office Ms. Olga Morozova embarked on a weeklong journey to Taiwan from September 16 to September 22. Signifying an important endeavor for international cooperation in the sphere of education between both sides, the visit culminated in the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding as well as an Addendum to the MoU.

    NCCU Opens its Doors for a massive Delegation of Japanese University Representatives and High School Principals

    A visiting delegation from Japan, consisting of representatives of 8 different universities and 6 high school principals, has been cordially received by NCCU’s Office of International Cooperation (OIC) on August 7. Vice President for International Cooperation Prof. Mei-Fen Chen, the Dean of the Office of Academic Affairs Prof. Naiming Yu, and Prof. Chun-I Chen from the Department of Diplomacy and Law facilitated the event and successfully established an energetic and stimulating platform of exchange between both sides. Initiated by the Taiwan Education Center Japan, the meeting provided ample opportunities for all attendees to get to know one another, to promote ideas, and to share each other’s academic visions.

    Strengthening Ties with Hong Kong’s Academic Powerhouses - NCCU Meets with 3 of Its Partner Universities

    In the context of the fifth Cross-strait Forum on Education of Modern Colleges held by the Chinese University of Hong Kong from July 17 to July 20, NCCU delegation set forth on a journey to one of Asia’s most vibrant cities. Consisting of NCCU President Prof Edward Chow, Vice President for International Cooperation Prof. Mei-Fen Chen, and the Director of NCCU’s Center for China Studies Prof. Ching-Ping Tang, NCCU representatives did not only attend the event, but also utilized this unique opportunity to visit three partner universities.

    Representatives of Taiwan’s Higher Education on a Journey to Enhance Dialog and Forming Partnerships in France and Belgium

    Despite the current semester break, NCCU’s President Prof. Dr. Edward Chow’s schedule remained quite busy with the Taiwan-France Higher Education Forum in Reims and the 2018 Taiwan-Belgium Roundtable in Brussels having taken place on July 9 and July 12, respectively. Both events mark a milestone for international cooperation between Taiwan’s higher education and their European counterparts in terms of scale and scope. With over 30 representatives of different Taiwanese universities attending the two occasions, the events have significantly contributed to increase the visibility of Taiwan’s higher education abroad and have generated new channels for interesting dialogs among all present parties. While NCCU’s delegation has utilized this unique opportunity by reaching out to existing and potential new partners and through active engagement in debates on innovations in higher education, cooperation strategies and internationalization at home.

    Strengthening Cooperation with Southeast Asia: Opening the first conversation with the University of Foreign Language Studies – University of Danang

    The visit of Dr. Tran Huu Phuc, Rector of the University of Foreign Language Studies – University of Danang, on June 22 marks an auspicious start for the future possible partnership with National Chengchi University. Invited by the Ministry of Education, Dr. Tran Huu Phuc - along with his family – met with NCCU Executive Vice President Prof. Chun-Chig Chang and Vice President for International Cooperation Prof. Mei-Fen Chen and discussed future collaboration possibilities. A particular focus during the talk thereby represented the promotion of Vietnamese language and cultural studies in Taiwan.

    National Chengchi University was being honored with a presidential visit by the Busan University of Foreign Studies (BUFS) on June 25. During the meeting, both sides engaged in discussions on the major challenges and opportunities that the advancement of technology is bringing to foreign language departments. As the internet and its various sources for foreign language learning offer students unprecedented opportunities to learn a language independently, both universities acknowledge the necessity to explore new avenues on how languages are to be taught.

    NCCU's Taipei MUN Conference Connects Local and International Students with One Another and with the World

    NCCU's annual Taipei Model United Nations Conference (TMUN) was being held for the 13th time during the weekend of May 18 to 20. Given its long tradition and high quality, the event hosted by NCCU's Youth Association of International Conferences (YAIC) is regarded as one of the most prestigious MUN conferences on the island. Three conference rooms in NCCU's Administration Building had thus been filled with university and high school students from all over Taiwan. Most notably, this year TMUN had even received delegations travelling all the way from Singapore to attend the event.
